i was due a B service on my 11 plate W204 and decided to go to local indie with decent reputation after previously using Merc ‘specialist’. Decision based on price and location. Wanted something between Halfords and real Merc. It had been mentioned on previous service that transmission service was needed but could not afford at the time. I also knew that brakes maybe an issue as warning came on 2 days prior to booking in.
A lengthy discussion transpired after initial check - transmission oil never been changed over 80K miles. My fault for naievity on this. Front brakes were down to to a hope and a prayer.
So my original £325 service was completed at a cost of £975.
Mainly my fault for procrastination and nativity.
It was washed and vacuuumed very nicely though.
Just hope the missus doesn’t notice the next credit card statement - lots of Tesco points though?

You should consider taking-out a Mercedes Benz Service Care Plan and get future servicing done at an MB Dealer.

Only point is that I would confirm with the dealer in advance what is due in the next 2 or 3 services before signing-up.

The discs however are a job for the Indy.

On a general note....:

Engine oil and filter change - at every service

Brake fluid change - every 2 years (typically with each Service B)

Cabin/Pollen/Dust filter change - every 2 years (typically with each Service B)

Air filter change - every 4 years

Fuel filter change - either every 4 years or every 15 years, depending on engine type.

Spark plugs change (petrol) - every 4 years

ATF and filter change (automatic transmission) - either never, or every 3, 4, or 5 years, depending on transmission type

Coolant change - every 15 years

This is based on the assumption of average annual mileage i.e. the car being serviced on time-basis rather than mileage.

Abs where are you.. I found your Lost Brother from the Kingdom Of Plastic..:D

Seriously, when I first got mine I put it in to an indie and foolishly said "Aye just sort it ans it was needed.." yes, like you I woke up to a bill of 675!!! From 154..:eek::eek::eek:

Haven't made that mistake since.. found a better indie instead..

Well I’m now 2K down in just over 2 months but I’m finished with it now. Everything has been done. :D

Hmm actually thinking of it now, needs a few chrome strips on the front bumper and probably wants new brakes soon  lol

My oh my. Thats a serious amount of money just to keep the FSH and book stamped up.

All the serviceing (sp) like oil and filters etc can be done with a basic tool set and a little help and direction from these good people on the forum. Local indys will do Star diagnosis fairly cheap if you need it then you just fix whatever needs doing. Saves the horrendous labour charges!

I'm such a skinflint ain't I. I saves my money for beer tokens...although I brews my own whenever possible.

^ Have you done that heater control valve yet?

Not years it’s seems to have fixed itself somehow, got the part though so I’ll get it changed soon when it’s back from the bodyshop :D

Been enjoying burning some petrol in the Clk today ;)

I'ma have to get the ATF changed soon, I've no record of it ever being done, and car is at 116k... It's the only maintenance job I can't/won't do myself...

How come mike?

Two things here ABS..

1/ Neither of your cars have been cheap so no question marks - or I'll let the world see your credit card statement Lols! :p:p:p:p:D

2/ Are you mechanical Abs?? Have you done your own fluids? So, why question Mike? Get your hands "Dirty" bro.. all I'll say Lols!
