Booked my car in for MOT at Main Dealer closest to work. Took car in and they drove me to work, did the MOT in about 2 hours, picked me up again so all complete by lunchtime. Cost was £61.00 inc VAT which I didnt think much about until someone in the office said they had their Skoda MOT'd recently in Manchester and it cost £45.
Will check basic cost on line today but wonder if I have been ripped off somewhere??
Maybe the sum I paid covers the full valet I got without asking as well??:confused:

My MOT last week cost £54

Basic cost is £54 so by applying VAT with a middleman you get your total. This price came as a surprise. Local garage to here does it for £25. Ex Merc mechanic tester so no corners cut either.

Out of interest where abouts is Bathgate please?

My local place charges £44 , great mot tester gives you plenty of warning on possible failures (he had my exhaust down as an advise for 3 years before failing it ) and points out possible problems with the car ie told me my tracking needed doing and has pointed out minor oil leaks when underneath

I'm still as jumpy as an expectant father when its being done though

£61-00 Driven to work and collected plus a valet..what more could one ask!!

Merc Liverpool did my CL500 in January for £19.99 - passed with flying colours and they valeted it for me as well.

I wasn't too distraught at that

I might be wrong about this, but I seem to recall that VAT is not added on to the MOT. I am far from certain, so hopefuly someone can confirm whether this is the case or not?

From the direct website.....

Vehicle type Age first test certificate required (years) Fee
Cars 3 £54.00

the fees shown are the maximum fees and they are not subject to VAT.

Many dealerships subsidise MOTs. I also get mine done for nothing at Tony Purslow (MB Guildford). I really mean nothing to pay - the MOT doesn't coincide with a service.

There is a garage near me that advertises NO PASS - NO FEE on all MOT's.
Dont know the full details, but its worth checking out.
