The SL has its MOT tomorrow. I don't know why, but I always worry myself silly over them. It's supposed to have some sort of guarantee against failure as part of its Tier 1 warranty, but as I no longer live anywhere near the supplying dealer, and I'm booked into a completely different one for the first time... Mercedes Maidstone... it just makes me worry more. Oh well. Hopefully nothing wrong although the front off side tyre may be suspect. Gulp.

Yup Tier 1 warranty includes cover against MOT failure. That's valid at any M-B dealership, so don't worry.

If it helps any my R129 SL is now 14 years old and has never yet had an advisory, let alone failed an MOT!

You'll be fine but with Tier 1 cover even a fail shouldn't mean you're out of pocket.

Mrs D's ML flew threw two Saturdays ago.

Well, it'll be the last few days of my Tier 1, I'm really uncertain on extending it or even taking out any warranty to be honest. Warranty Direct quoted me £875.00.

Funnily enough my warranty/current MOT also expires on the 6th.

    Regards,

Burger, you can get the MOT done a month before the exipy date and still keep the existing expiry

mine runs out on 9th sept, but i had it done on the 27th Aug, but it keeps the original exipy of the 9th Sept next year.

That's about £100 more than I paid them this year for mine (SL55) - you should be able to deal them down by a good £200-£300

    Woo hoo... Passed :)

    No advisories.

Another sleepless night for nothing. I'll learn one day, but I think I'm getting too old to learn much new :)

What made you doubt the tyre? IF it was tread wear remember that tyre performance falls off rapidly below 3mm tread depth despite being well within the legal limits.:dk:

Only in the wet. Dry braking improves (slicks being the ultimate).

Not according to tyre manufacturers... they claim that the rubber degrades and looses it's characteristics with use / over time, so an older or high-miles tyre will be less flexible etc etc. But then again maybe they just want us to buy new tyres...

When I looked at the tyres yesterday the very inside edge of the off side front looked very low, probably less than 0.5mm but I do mean only the very inside edge, the rest of the front tyres look to have 3mm + tread left yet. I guess it can't be bad otherwise I'm sure I'd have received an advisory on the MOT. I watched the fella doing it and he was very meticulous and it took about an hour.

I won't worry about tyres though. If it needs them then it'll get them... it's only the unknown and uncertain I worry about :)
