Having had its MOT yesterday at MB Warrington, the follwing two items have come up as needed for replacement. MB quoted me £410.00  , so have taken it to a local independant garage to get the work done. Just waiting for a quote back. Any ideas how much i should be paying?

2 front lower ball joints

Rear brake line hoses

Thanks,

Rob

Wow! They must supply the barrel too at that price...

Ball joints are about £10/15 each plus labour, but they're a relatively easy job. As for rear brake lines, I had front and rear braided stainless steel lines fitted by Olly, and they werent quite £410!

I'd say you're looking ROUGHLY around £200, but others will be able to give you a better idea :)

Hope you get a good quote!

Ball joints are about 1.6hours labour (0,8 per side). £25 each for the ball joints

Rear brake hoses are about £17 each plus about 0.8 for fitting plust a brake bleed.

Ball joints are about £25/30 each in parts + about 30/45 minutes of labour per side...

So, going by indy prices, should work out to about £100/£120 for the two. Going by dealer prices (do they still charge £195 per hour?) you're looking at around £250 for the two....

Brake lines I can't help with I'm afraid...

You're in the NW, give IBW a call.

If it was my car, I would think of that as a pass and fix it myself for under a £100.

ball joints a tenner each, hoses about £5 each :D

The £10 ball joints are awful.

Stick with Lemforder or MB Ball joints

Did your test prove decisive then mate?

If i remember right the expensive ones went on mine the same time the cheap ones went on yours?? Have they dropped to bits already

Actually they have lasted 4k miles but the way they are made is just cheapo.

Just got the car back. All items complete. £209. Saved £200 from stealership prices. MB can stick it from now on.

£9 out on my estimate :D

Half price work :) Dealers certainly have their place on certain bits and newer cars etc. but for the more mature Mercedes, you cant beat a good indie!
