Howdy!

I need to bring my motorbike for an MOT... but it currently is missing the indicators and a side mirror.

The indicators I know aren't an issue as long as they are not there (i.e. if there are indicators, they need to work. If there aren't any, that's fine too). I've mot'ed her before without indicators.

That said, I don't know what the policy around mirrors is? Should I remove the second mirror as well before the MOT, put a blanking plate over the mirror bolts (duct tape?) or just go as is with a stump sticking out the side?

No mirrors is fine, as is just one mirror. I would remove any projecting stumpy bits though.

Thanks - but I cannot find any reference to mirrors there!

Which I read as you don't need mirrors?

Just make sure there are no sharp, pointy bits sticking out! :D

Cool :) Time to call the local MOT place (ugh! can't stand them, they are very rude and not friendly at all... If only there was another bike mot center near me)

Just got the bike MOT'ed!

So, to confirm - mirrors are NOT part of the MOT test (or at least they are not something they can fail you on). The tester confirmed that you should remove any sharp edges, broken glass, etc - but they cannot fail you on a missing mirror.

That said, given that the advisory sheet is handwritten, they can put absolutely anything they want... and in my case, put down that my N/S mirror was missing (along with a bent footpeg I had missed, and fairings that confused the tester... they are senna grey 900ss fairings fitted to a red 750ss...)

Anyhow, I'm pleased. On that note, I don't usually mention places unless something has gone wrong - I think that the only time you can really judge how good a service really is, is when something goes wrong... and I can recommend Punter's MOT in Hillingdon.

They do not take bookings for the MOT, but are open from 8am in the morning, so I turned up on my way to work. Bike got done immediately (well, 10 minute wait until the tester got there as I got there at 7:50). No real viewing area, and got asked to stop "hovering around" and stand back. (Fair enough. Not the most polite way to treat a customer, but I can understand).

Got asked to pay £29.50 for the MOT, when I queried that on their site they were giving a £10 discount. The chap mentioned he knew nothing about it and started billing me for £29.50, but the lady in there looked at the site, realised that it didn't mention "only for cars" and they gave me back £10. I offered to pay the £10 anyhow as I was in a good mood, but they were happy as it was. So for £19.50 I got an MOT and a nice plastic sleeve to hold my certificate!

So, to the lady in the "reception" - you've just gotten yourself a happy customer that will bring multiple bikes for years to come. My only advice is to get someone to serve bacon rolls around those tables & umbrellas outside!

EDIT: You used to be able to edit the thread and put [SOLVED]... any ideas how I do it now?
