MOT Question

Hi Gang,

Do you think that my fog light will fail an MOT as it has water inside it I think. It's misted up on the inside so probably has a crack in it somewhere.?

It's due by end of month so wondered if I should just get a new one and replace beforehand.

..............it seems FRONT foglights don't fall within the remit of the current MOT test.

I was under the impression that a car did not have to have front fog lights but if it did they needed to be in good working order.

Is a cracked lense/water inside considered "bad" I wonder.?

Providing you have the "standard" spot lights, you can replace the glass quite easily....you can just buy the glass itself from main dealers for about £15.....farily simple 10min (if that) job to remove the fitting and replace the glass...

You might get away with just taking the fitting off, cleaning/drying it and refitting if glass not damaged.

Front fog lamps and reversing lights are EXCLUDED from the MOT test.

it should be fine with front fogs filled with water. Alfa passed twice with them almost 3/4 full of water, before i had the chance to remove and drain

The 107 SL didnt even have any reflector left (rusted!) in the fog lamps - again, no warnings and was fine. Its fixed now incidently.

Thanks Verytalldave. Most interesting and I stand corrected.

It is something that I will get done (or do myself) but just wondered if it was more urgent due to the upcoming MOT.

It appears not so thanks for that. Saved me a job this weekend.
