Hi all my car is due its 2nd MOT and the car is still under warranty with Mercedes do i need to have the MOT done at the Mercedes?

Thanks.

Nope. MOT doesn't effect the warranty but any repairs that may need doing because of it may

Rolls Royce dealerships have to follow the same MOT rules as MOT centre underneath the railway arches , Mercedes Benz dealerships ?...not so sure.

You could take your car to an MB dealership and it might fail because it is the wrong colour, or the brake pads only have 8000 miles of life left in them :p:p:D

All five MoTs on my car have been done by the Mercedes dealer that does the service. Other than a pair of wiper blades, they’ve not picked on anything. At £35 every time, it’s been good value too.

I have to say, same with mine - and I got it serviced and MOT'd at the dealer until it was 10yrs old. The dealer I used (Inchcape) did have an MOT 'guarantee' so I was always confident it wouldn't fail! However they still could have given it advisories I got nothing more than a chip on the windscreen and front tyres edges scrubbed mentioned.

Where I did slip up is, due to the car being on variable servicing, is that the services and MOTs were at different times - a couple of times things were picked up at service that I might have got done free if they'd been found at the MOT. Broken spring, and something else I can't recall.

Do not use the main dealer for Mot's. My Range Rover which had a 5 year service plan went in for a service & first Mot which was about a month early. Phone call, it needs front discs. Cost £800. It had only done 6000 miles so I said the car is not fit for purpose so you should be replacing them at your expense. No chance. Forget the Mot then, so I took to a Range Rover specialist. Nothing wrong with them. Two years later it has still not required them done & he has done all my Mot's

Mine had its second mot done at main dealer, it’s still under extended warranty, which also covers mot failure, it went through ok, I’ll use them for next mot as it still covers mot failure and will expect anything to be done under warranty 👍

They tried to sell you discs that you didn't need, which is very bad, obviously. But they didn't actually tell you that the car won't pass its MOT unless you replace the discs...? If so, then I had a similar experience with a national tyre chain, when buying tyres I was told that the car (not MB) needed new discs, I declined and at the next service asked the dealer to check the discs, they said everything was fine... had the car for 3 more years after that, still with the same brakes, no problems.

I've used Formula 1 in Derby for all the family cars, inc my AMG, for 25 years. The MoT guy is behind a Chinese wall from the sales guy. Always been totally straight with no unneeded upsales. The MoT is the best value safety inspection you can get. Like a MB service B for £25 without oil change.

Unfortunately that can happen anywhere, whether a main dealer or not.

Presumably it’s not covered for wear items such as brake pads and tyres?

Well with MOT's I find a local garage who do not take the P--s if you get MOT station where the examiner salutes the flag every morning then you could be in for a rough time, with the emissions being set tighter you can no longer take your car and leave it,you need to book it in and turn up with the engine hot and make certain you keep it running until they take the car onto the ramps,if you do not do that then there is a chance of a fail.

Disc's and pads are such an easy biscuit for them and with good margins on the parts plus minimum time on the ramp they are a good earner.

A few years back I had a car at a garage for a few days, there was an MOT place next door so I asked the garage if they could take the car next door and get it MOTed while they had it with them.

When I came to collect the car from the garage, the owner was quite embarrassed: he had two pieces of paper, one said Fail and other said Pass.

Apparently the MOT place failed the car over a blown bulb, but immediately issued a pass and told the garage owner that they trusted him to replace the bulb.... he hadn't done that, so I changed the bulb and drove off.
