c180 w202
:confused:any hints on what to look for on my w202 c180 for next mot in jan.
as all models have own problems, i alway get my cars ready for test, but this my 1st mercedes,so any info would be great help

Didn't see too many recurring faults with the W202- just go through it beforehand as with any other car. Get it nice and hot before the test,as have seen some fail emissions and just needed a good blat up the road. Nothing springs to mind with them as a particular fault.

my rule of thumb on my cars has been do the obvious and silly then send to test.

check all bulbs and tyres and make sure nothing hanging or falling apart then send to test.
let the tester do the rest

Get the car in the month before it's due - the date of earliest re-test is on your current MOT certificate. That way you have a month to sort any major problems found.

Hi,
Specific things to check for W202 MOT, lower ball joints, camber/caster bushes, rusty brake pipes and hoses, front wheel bearings, all IMO of course.
Got the MOT booked for my AMG today, it doesn,t run out till the 17th but as the car is going into Ollys for a week or two and did,nt want the hassle of MOTing it afterwards.

i was told years ago that if u put ur car in before dew date,an it failed you cound'nt use your car as it was classed as unroad worthy, iv never looked into to this to see how true it is,

The MOT doesn't mean it is roadworthy, it is just a snapshot. The MOT test is the absolute minimum standard the car should conform with at all times.

If it can't pass an MOT, then it shouldn't be on the road, having a valid MOT test doesn't entitle you to use an unroadworthy car.

Failing an early retest doesn't invalidate the existing MOT certificate but as said a valid MOT doesn't mean it's roadworthy. Needs to be roadworthy and have a valid MOT

Fail on the day the current MOT expires and until it's got a fresh MOT can only be driven to or from somewhere to be tested/repaired and tested if it's prebooked. Fail with days or weeks left and there's more options/time to sort it. Obviously common sense a big part i.e. did it fail due to a smallish exhaust leak or some other minor thing or did it fail on something safety related like brakes etc
