Just collected my E220d yesterday. Now looking at warranty options. MB extended warranty is £800 per year (one off payment).
MB explained to me that since the vehicle is not currently under warranty it’s more expensive and cannot pay in instalments
😞

The best alternative would be Motoreasy which turns out to be cheaper for a similar level of cover (on paper).
I'd go for the highest level of cover they offer and zero excess ... £1200 for 3 years.

Any reccomendations or direct experience with them?

By looking at Trustpilot I see mixed reviews and not sure whther it is worth it spending extra for MB extended warranty.

Thank you!

MB warranties like all of them are a gamble, your car could be trouble free for years or something may go badly wrong.

I had a 2016 E350 S212 that I purchased new, when the warranty was due to run out I checked and a years MB warranty was around £499 I intended to take this out but forgot to renew straight away, when I next checked which was around a couple of weeks out of the 3 year warranty it shot up to around the £800 mark so I did not take out any warranty.

I sold the car after owning it for five and a half years with absolutely no problems in that time.

FWIW I'm happy to buy a 4 year old car out of warranty. Sure it's a small gamble but if I look back on the cars I bought major failures happened in the first 3 years under someone elses's warranty. I prefer to keep £500 in a slush fund in case anything happens. Never had to spend big money on anything until I bought my CLS55. But hey it's from 2006 and what choice do you have when the SBC, SAS, steering pump or steering rack fails.
Either I'll keep it forever or the next owner won't have to fix them.

When my MB 3 year warranty ran out I purchased the two year extended for £700.00 , claimed for a new NOX sensor last December. New car due next September and warranty runs out end of this month so renewed last week (MB) £40.00 a month until I cancel.

How much would the NOX sensor have cost?

Diagnostics £95 + Nox sensor fitting £200 ?? Should have taken the money ?? Not really , it's called peace of mind. Car is now 5 years old so £40 a month until the new car arrives is worth the gamble, and will be a plus when selling if it's still under warranty.

I have a MB warranty. I wouldn't say that they are a waste of money. I've had to have the two front shock replaced, the Pawel capacitor, the radar sensor and the ESP control unit all under warranty.

So I would say that I have most definately had my money's worth.

Difference between the MB Warranty and the Motoreasy would be the fact that you would have to pay for any repairs and claim them back, whereas the MB Warranty directly covers the cost with the dealershio.

I paid £700 first year and £470 second year for extended warranty.

Had 3 control arms replaced which would have cost £450 each go, nox sensor £700, front spring £250 and PCV replacement £1500 at dealership prices.

My car has only just hit 50k miles as well

Going through this dilemma now.

I checked mb extended warranty the other month but they had my wrong vehicle details ( I transferred plate to new car and it showed the old car ) and it wanted a code I didn’t have.

Anyway today I was getting quotes of £863 per year / £1683 for 2 but messaging that my car was out of warranty, warranty expires next week on 7th may, so phoned them & got £804 for 2 years instead. The guy said it was comprehensive and covered mechanical and electricals, I asked about the cabriolet roof mechanism & he said mechanical so yes & I asked about headlights to which he said electrical so yes I asked about suspension & again he said mechanical do yes.

I think all those are excluded in the t’s & C’s.

I had actually taken out a motoreasy warranty an hour before, the helpful sales guy gave me various discounts, explained the areas motoreasy covered that Mercedes warranty didn’t like the convertible roof mechanism, suspension and headlight unit (no bulbs and whole unit replacement etc) and explained to claim I just needed to go to my preferred Merc garage (not sure any exist unless I go back in time 10+ years) and motoreasy would sort from there at £46 a month and cancel anytime with no penalty (gave a scenario where car was written off in November and I cancel with no payment in December). I had selected £200 max hourly rate and my preferred garage on the website so was all sounding great.

Plus discounted to £46 with no customer contribution.

Sounded like a no brainier so I parted with my direct debit details and signed up. Problems started in the agree to the policy link I was sent. the policy documents don’t match what I chose in the site, £120 max hourly rate and no mention of preferred garage, plus mentions I would need to pay and garage make invoice to motoreasy & they would pay me back. he said I wouldn’t need to pay at all.

Nice guy but I feel totally mugged

Motoreasy policy seemed more comprehensive than the Mercedes official (Allianz) policy but truly not trusting motoreasy if the policy documents don’t match the verbal conversation and what I ticked on the website.

Also policy documents mention minimum 12 months when the guy said cancel any time with no penalty.

I’d rather stick the cash in my isa, but amg repair bills sound expensive so hopefully will be buying some leverage with speakership to be nice and get the necessary done.

I will need to do some homework in the 14 day cooling period.

I suspect even with the official warranties limitations I’m better off with Allianz than motoreasy

Like most insurance, a waste of money
100% agree, I’ve never had a warranty on a car that didn’t come with it (which has only been twice on 2 new cars in the dim and distant past).

So much better to simply save the money you would have spent buying the warranty in the first place, just in case something happens. If the worst happens, you’re covered, if nothing happens - Bingo! treat yourself/your other half/kids etc. win/win…..

My particular point being, life is too short paying for something you’ll with never use or be forced not to use by red tape….

I see that......but one big failure a few months in (gearbox etc etc) and that's a bad decision. At the end of the we all pay insurance for stuff we hope we will never claim on. I wont cancel my house flood insurance even though its just about impossible to flood in my location......and even though I will probably never claim on it. Its piece of mind. That said I never (on the very few occasions I've used a dealer rather than a private seller) take any offers of further warranty......Even the warranty they offer I try and reject (and get a better price on the car without any warranty) if its under six months they include....which most are. Buying warranty (and you are buying it in the price of the car even if they say its free) under six months really is a waste of time as the law gives you that much cover anyway....so why!? They only want you to buy a 6 month warranty to protect THEM not you. If they don't sell you a warranty and the car goes wrong its them that will foot the bill rather than the warranty company.....so don't fall for that.

I bought a car plan a with motoreasy when I got my e class, it covers up to £200 and has paid out in the first year about £500 for random electric issue with parking sensor system. Not had an issue with them, they did try to book me into thier garage to have the sensor done, but managed to sort that easy enough and was done at Mercedes.
Im hoping they will pick up the cost of the slightly broken gearbox when it does finally fail it's covered so they should.
Just remember to get any invoices you pay out made out to them or they knock you for vat.

We had the MotorEasy warranty - it was a peace of mind and you don't want te car to go wrong - ENSURE you get everything in writing ie via email re any agreements EG their Max labour rate may be XXX but if you want your car to go to Merc dealers, MB charges around 220 an hours and the sales will say, "that's fine" - you ask, but your max labour rates are much less than that - the sales may tell you not to worry they get a "discount" - I had to put this to the test during the last couple of days of the 3 yrs warranty - I was challenged by Motoreasy that they cant do the MB rates - thankfully I had the email confirming what the sales guy had said - However, thanking my lucky stars the EML only came on the once and never again and I never bothered with them - but out of interest I chased them and chased them to get a response. I guess like many companies of all types - The sales team are your best mates. However, come claims time, trust me it is never as good as the sales team experience

In hindsight, I should have kept the 1400 odd quid but TBH, it was a peace of mind as Merces are expensive to fix re niggle faults - I have a GLE
