Instant filming of any unexpected or traumatic event is a global epidemic these days. In fact it's actively encouraged by media reporters to save them the work and secure 'exclusives' for their news outlet, to quote the BBC 'If you have any pictures send them to us at......'
I was involved in someone else's accident whilst northbound on the M6 a few years ago and there were people stopping on the southbound carriageway to film the wreckage, completely oblivious to any suffering endured by others or risk to themseves. Go figure!
 
...also it's the NT we're talking about. - That's the kind of place you have to check your car for snakes and the beach for crocodiles; it's the only part of Australia with no speed limit.
