Motorway Rip-off

Drivers filling up at motorway service stations have been hit the hardest during the recent petrol-price hikes, it has been revealed.
Motorway prices have been, on average, nearly 10p a litre higher than supermarket forecourts located just off motorways, according to research by the RAC.

If you knew how much tax the service stations pay and what restrictions/requirements they have in order to operate you'd understand why it costs 10p/litre more and why a cup of Costa is about £4.50.

Meanwhile I filled up yesterday for 107.9 :D

Its still not cheap, just not as expensive as it was
I should have said I "filled up at 107.9", otherwise it sounds like I filled up for £107.90 which frankly is nearly true anyway! ;)

Well you could have filled up with 107.9 p completely (but you'd have had to be in Venezuela :()
Yep or I might have just wanted to top up the car having only used one litre since the last fillup, the possibilities are endless! :)

Minimum fuel delivery by most pumps is 2 litres.....................
Wonder how they could enforce that, I suppose all they can do is charge you for 2 litres no matter how little you used.

I'm getting onto the M74 in Glasgow next week to drive to Switzerland.
M74, M6, M6 Toll, M6, M1, M25, M20 to the first overnight stop at the Holiday Inn Ashford. I only get about 350 miles from a tank, that about 180 miles short.

I would be tempted to cut across country on the A65 (M6 Near Kendal), and head towards Leeds to get to the M1. Its a better drive, will save a few miles, and will put you in striking distances of cheaper petrol just before you get back to the M1. thus allowing you to fill up cheap, and not go out of your way to do so.

Also avoids the M6 Toll.

thus more money saving.

Check the way out on a map.

They don't allow naked flames on planes.

yes, we don't. I have some very effective cures for those flames too.

I even remember a rather large gentleman getting in a bit of huff about being told to put out his cigarrette on the apron after a flight, only to watch him stare in disbelief as a 33tonne fire appliance arrive and the remote operated device on the roof aim slowly in his direction.

He put out the cig before they blew it out for him.

Actually, that was quite an amusing moment in my life that. About 8 other people started to replace the cig packets into their pockets as they headed to the terminal hoping we hadn't seen.

I can't believe people actually thought we would fire 5000ltrs a minute at them.

I used to wear an FBI cap 2, for some arriving flights, They took that in too.

I have had a few chuckles in mine time.
