Hello everyone... i am looking for advice on wha to do... i had a new motor put into the drivers side window as it stopped working but ince getting it back i get wind noise inside the car at high speeds.... Do i replace the rubbers around the window and where can i get these or can i play with the window and adjut it in some way... Thankyou

Who ever did the job has not set the window runners up correctly, with the door lining off you can adjust the glass for being square in the frame and to exclude noise.

With luck if you look closely you may see the old marks where the runners were

Pillarless doors are always noisey though - the vaccum outside the car sucks the glass away from the rubber, and hence noise will inevitabley creep in, even if set-up well.

Thankyou... will have a little look today and adjust if needed.....

of course Bobby that effect would not be speed related would it ;)

Dont you belive it - the coupe was designed to be as quiet as the saloon at speed - 148mph in my car's case.

The window just needs re-alignment.

I have driven at 120 mph on continent and very quiet.

Is the window correctly under the outside upper lip of rubber?

adjusting these coupe windows is rather tricky. You have stops at the top that have to be absolutely spot on (to the mm) on the front and rear. These also have a habit of moving as you tighten the pinch bolt.

There is also lateral adjustment (adjusting the angle sideways) which needs to be right in order for the glass to fit under the lip when you close the door.

I've tried in vain for years to get my passenger door just right.

Sounds like a bit of a nightmare.. maybe i should stick to 56 mph on the motorway and tehre is no noise......or live with it.... lol... only way to test it though is to adjust it then and travel for a bit at high speeds. So if you see me on the motorway with a socket set and my door open you know why....

There is the correct way to do this.

Number 1 you should see where the runner were.

You use a piece of paper to set it up,, if you adjust so that the top is too tight it will force open the bottom of the glass and if the top of the runner is too tight at the top of the door the glass will run out as it goes up.

I suggest that you take a bit of paper go to the other side and slide it around the glass and seal feeling the tightness as you go, then set up the other side the same. The trick is to have a balanced pressure all round,, if any one part is too tight it will mak a gap somewhere else.

I once again stress that you can see the marks where they have been for the best part of the cars life

Maybe there's a particularly trick seal on the W124 CE, but the laws of physics have denied a completely silent seal on the two pillarless coupes I've owned.

Gina says since she got her passenger window aligned and her new drivers regulator replaced she has no wind noise whatsoever :)

Yeah but she's a girl... to busy thinking of shoes and make-up and stuff to notice any wind noise. ;)

I have the exact same problem with my CLK W208.
It's been like it since I purchased it nearly a year ago.
I finally got round to having the drivers' door fixed last week as it didn't quite shut properly. Apparently the door strap(?) was bent so they replaced it and now it closes perfectly.
The only problem now is that the road noise is even worse! Could this be because the window has gradually distorted over time and it needs re-alligning?
Apparently my fiance says the passenger side is OK - but what does she know!
Do I have to take the inside of the door off to fix it?
Any ideas???

I am not quite sure of the piece that was broken on your door, but if the glass has been sitting in the wrong place for a long time it could have distorted the rubber seals.

Once again its a matter of testing by sliding a thin post card between the seal and the glass, there are adjustment all over to set them up.

Do remember that they are not road tested in the factory they are set up on the floor. Once again its a delicate job,too much pressure at any one place will cause a gap somewhere else

Thanks TELEVISION.
May I ask what you do for a living?...You seem to know a lot!
Any advice how to remove my door fascia so I can make some adjustments? Are there any manuals about?

David

I just play with electronics but I have rebuilt many cars over the years.

If you can work any thing out from the link to remove the cover, here is the link.

There are mainly plastic clips around the bottom and there are screws under trims and SRS badge

Do remember the the front door must sit 1mm proud of the B pillar, and that includes the glass

Thanks everyone... will have ago this week.... if we get some nice weather...... Thanks again for all the help

Thanks Television but that web page does look a bit daunting!
Once I manage to get the door trim off, how do I alter the window position? Is it straight forward once I have the door in front of me?

David

There are two stops, one front one rear and there is also horizontal adjustment via the guides.

Not sure if your model CLK drops the windows slightly when the doors open or not. I dont think a W208 does this but someone here will pipe up if I am wrong.

On my CE, the window thats the problem is not original (some scrote tried to steal the stereo) and I'd put money on my difficulties being that the curvature on the glass isn't quite right hence being impossible to seal perfectly. (I've tried everything else)

You are correct in that the glass does not drop 2000 ish
