Moving towards a happy ending.........

Bought by my friends mum brand new in 1990. Bar climate control and tow bar (!), every option ordered, including ADS (which is superb). FMBSH, maintained regardless of cost. I've got the original bill of sale plus every service invoice.

As well as the AMG Style II 18" rims, I also have the original wheels with brand new rubber on them.

Given to my mates brother in 2002 when she took delivery of a brand new SL500 (guess what I've got my eye on next in a few years?!). I bought it off him back in late June this year. Only thing broken was the aircon - now regassed and running like a dream.

All I've done to it is:

Personal plate;
Standard MBClub pedals;
Blue wheel centres;
Replacement mats;
New holders for the ultrasonic sensors (one had broken);

Its pre cat as well, so its 326bhp.....

Will bring to a GTG soon, any excuse to drive it really....

Greg

You were right, but you're still a d*ckhead.
No doubt you don't mean to offend (too much) but I don't need your "I told you so" attitude - so if you've got nothing better to write, then write nothing.

Glad there's a happy ending to the story Nick.

Despite what some morons may have posted, having your stuff stolen does actually hurt.

Being insured is great but it doesn't take away what's happened.

Look forward to seeing the new car at one of the GTGs

and I agree - with comments like that - he is a di*khead :)

Andy.

Bit of an overreaction here boys.

You get more than you paid for your car, I (and the other 55,000,000 odd people who live in the UK) don't have to sacrifice our civil liberties and move towards a Police state to appease your reactionary instincts. Everybody's happy. What's the problem?

Dry your eyes and get over it.

Your first message might have got you criticism that may well not have been totally justified, but surely you can see now that you are being rude? I don't like offending anyone, yourself included, but PLEASE try to be more tactful.

Regards,
John

John,

You and I must have a different definition of rudeness.

I was responding to two previous posts where I was called a dickhead. That I consider rude. No matter that nigkg (and his chum andy) and I disagree about this, NO WHERE in this thread or the the other one recounting nick's stolen car, have I used any abusive language. It speaks directly to the paucity of Nick's position that he resorts to swearing at me.

Have you said anything to the two posters who resorted to abusive language?

it goes beyond "you get a cheque".

Being insured is one thing but that's not the whole story.

A couple of years back we had our car broken into and some very expensive gear stolen. We'd left the car unattended for about 15 minutes on the drive and in that time someone had smashed a window, forced a door, pulled a piece of trim off to remove the luggage cover, bled all over the car (they cut themselves smashing the window) and stolen nearly £30k worth of gear.

So, we are insured I hear you say, well yes we were except that because of the small print we were told we would only get paid out £1000 for the gear in the car. The car insurance doesn't cover contents and even though we had "away from the home" insurance for the full value that didn't apply either because technically the stuff wasn't away from home. The gear was also insured seperately for "work" but because it was supposedly covered by another insurance policy and becase I wasn't actally working at the time of the theft they weren't going to pay out either.

All credit to the car insurance, they paid in full and without any quibbles for the damage, having the car valeted and replacing damaged trim but we still had to pay an excess of £200.

Eventually the Police recovered some of the stolen property and we managed to use a bit of local influence by offering rewards and other incentives to recover some more and the home insurance paid out for the rest.

The thief was caught and prosecuted, despite all the reports submitted the magistrate wouldn't award costs or compensation saying "that we hadn't suffered any financial loss".

So, we paid out nearly £1000 quid in rewards, a further £1500 in repairs to the stolen gear, £300 in excesses and lost our no claims bonus on two policies.

We were without the car for a week whilst parts were ordered

When it came to Annie reinsuring the car the price went from £300 for fully comp with business use to over £1100, a quick "change of ownership" and we got the price down to just over £400 as long as we keep Annie's name off the policy so she can't drive the car.

and we supposedly didn't suffer any hardship?

I stand by my comments and agree wholeheartedly with Nick, anyone who thinks there is a winner other than the insurance companies has to be a complete ****head.

Calling you names certainly does not help, but unfortunately in my opinion you were being very insensitive when someone was clearly upset about a horrible incident.

Their house had been broken into and the burglar\burglars had rummaged through their personal possessions. That alone deserves sympathy, then to top it off their car was stolen.

This is a forum where we all have at least one common interest... our appreciation of a beautiful marque. I would be exceedingly angry if some misunderstood delinquent stole my pride and joy and would be very quick to get this point across. You appear to not care less and have shown little or no compassion for the victim, and in so many words have said just that. That is clearly your right, but in voicing this you have laid yourself open to remarks similar to those you have received.

There is a time to talk and a time to listen, perhaps it would have been less insensitive to have merely listened and kept your contraversial opinion to yourself.

I believe that you have bought these adverse comments on yourself, Nick and Andy have perhaps merely voiced the opinion of other members in there own particular style' ;)

Nick,
It might have been less coarse to if you had called neilrr..... 'Richard cranium'?? ;)

Sorry neil, but I feel you are out of order.

I still disagree though with giving you a negative feedback for merely voicing your own opinion.

Take care and remember..... It takes less effort to smile rather than frown??? (I think)

Regards,
John

Nice post there John, thanks. I'm sure someone would like to calculate the exact human effort of smiling/frowning to prove that particular point ;). An interesting project at least if ever there was one.

This is NOT the place for unpleasantries. Let's get back on topic please...

Of course having a car nicked it not the worst thing in the world. Thats why I've got over it. I have been keeping the forum updated as to the outcome because there are many people on here who are interested to know how things turn out for a fellow member.
And the reality is that we will all pay something towards the cost that my insurance company has had to bear....when they raise your premium again next year.
How did we manage to get to a situation where a person can have c£25,000 of property stolen and the police and authorities do absolutely nothing at all to try and find it or the thieves?
Only a d*ckhead would really believe that this is a victimless crime.

Well said Nick.

Having only recently been a victim of a break in, I was saddened and disappointed by the police's attitude.

More akin to "Heres that all important crime number mate, now go get another phone", oh and "Would you like any counselling?"

No, I bloody well don't want counselling, I just want you to catch these scrotes, rather than pouring money into anti-car lentilists to sit in vans with cameras pointing out of them, extracting money out of us poor so-and-so's.

Not good.
