MP3 songs from memory cards

I had a CLS loaner recently and spotted what looked like an SD card slot on the COMAND fascia. Is that not what it was?

"This applies to brands of Mercedes Benz A-class, C-class, E-class, S-class, M-class, SL, SLK, CL, CLK typically from model year 1996-2005. "

It was brand new so I was probably right then.

What a brilliant idea, no need to keep the Ipod or phone charged up and a 16G card will hold a shedfull of music.

I wonder if the song titles show on COMAND and the dash?

The tiltles wont show unfortunately. You can have 48 GB of music on it though! Or aprox 12,000 mp3 files !

Restricted to 99 songs in series of folders on each card

Information Display
The title number information is displayed in the same manor as of the CD-Changer, e.g. Title 89 is shown on the Radio or Navigation device display. Mercedes Benz cars equipped with the combined speedometer display can provide the title number right in front of your driving position, too. Furthermore the selected card will be displayed: CD1 (first card position), CD2, CD3 und CD4 (last card position).

Memory Card Selection
Radios or Navigation devices with keypad can directly select one of the 4 card positions CD1...CD4 by pressing the key 1...4. In all other Radios or Navigation devices one of the 4 cards can easily be selected by turning the right knob.

Title Selection
The left-right keys on your Radio or Navigation device let you step forward and backward through your song collection. Mercedes Benz cars with steering wheel controls allow sequential stepping, too.

Folder Organization
When the number of titles on a memory card exceeds a certain amount it is advisable to introduce folders and to group your songs accordingly to this folder structure. The Mercedes Player MP40 can automatically jump into the next folder when the end of the current folder is reached. You can command a forced jump to the next folder at any time when pressing the step forward button longer than usual. This provides you with the ability to find most songs immediately:

My new c class has this. It shows the song title, album name on the comand screen. It doesnt show the artist though unless you click back through the contents of the memory card.

Personally I dont rate it that much. You have to group the songs in artists/album folders on your PC which is very time consuming before transferring them to the card, otherwise the songs are just a jumbled up mess on the memory card. I prefered the ipod kit in my old W203 to this system.

No, your C-class does not have the device from the link from the first post of this thread. Instead you have the OEM memory card slot on your OEM Comand. :) I guess you were just referring to a memory card interface for MP3.

I don't understand your comment about grouping songs. I've just copied my iTunes folder as such from my PC to my memory card and I have all my music properly ordered.

This player is specifically for " Mercedes Benz A-class, C-class, E-class, S-class, M-class, SL, SLK, CL, CLK typically from model year 1996-2005

It replaces the 6x CD changer.

At first, I wasn't aware that the (April) 2001 S320 CDI I bought had a multi-CD changer so imagine my glee when after a month of ownership I discovered it under the carpet in the boot!

I immediately loaded it with CDs! The first couple seemed to read okay on the COMAND, but then the next one stuck! I think because it was a burned CD although I couldn't tell with it being stuck!

Anyway where was I? Oh yeah, I managed to remove the multi-CD changer taking extreme care not to pull the wires. I'm no car DIYer by any stretch of the imagination but this was surprisingly easy!

I still haven't managed to 'free' my CDs (I can see the 3rd one of the magazine sticking 'out').

Anyway, I was thinking of replacing the 'problematic' multi-CD changer with this MP40 player. Thoughts?

Thanks Chas...

Go for it, best thing I ever did was replacing the ageing CD changer with the MP 3 player, 20 minute job

get it here.. :)

Mercedes Player MP40 - Mercedes Player

... I noticed that the MP40 is considerably smaller than the multi-CD changer. Is it simple to fix the MP40 securely to the existing CD changer bracket(s)? I wouldn't want it to look untidy and/or have it rattle about whilst I'm driving!

I forget which brand it is but the radio in my Coupé has iPod, SD and USB connections, can't remember the last time I turned the radio on.
