MP3's on a Comand 2.5 Unit?

Hi.

I'm new to the forum and this is my 1st post!

I have just acquired the car of my dreams, CL 500 (W215) W-reg 2000.

It has the Comand 2.5 unit with a CD changer in the boot, sat nav, and television unactivated (as no TV tuner).

Whats the best way to listen to MP3s?

I first thought I could simply replace the existing 6-CD autochanger with an CD/MP3 autochanger (eg. Sony) but have since found out that Comand units use D2B fibre optic connections and therefore may require complex and expensive adaptors.

Is there an 'auxillary' input on the Comand 2.5?

Could I utilise the unused 'TV' input with a CD/MP3 player or even a DVD unit that plays MP3s?

I am not interested in iPod kits or 'FM transmitter' kits (unless its my only option!)

Any help much appreciated, Thanks!

Paul.

This is exactly what I am planning :)

There are lots of in-car DVD units with mp3 capability and they will have video output that can be piped through the comand TV tuner or an AV interface.

Another option is the aux input but this will require you to use the aux audio source's screen to view tracknames or playlists etc. There are a few threads on using the aux input, try searching for "ipod" :)

Welcome to the club - I have exaclty the same car (model & year).

I have heard various stories about aux inputs either being in the glove box or under the drivers seat (???) - not found one myself. I believe they were an option so it may not be fitted.

As Shude has said - plenty of former posts on this topic, although I know it can be pretty confusing with all the various Comand 'types' out there. Don't know about you but I am really hesitant to try anything unless I know for sure it will work for my particular car!

I think for the technically minded/competant it shouldn't be that hard...

yes you get a lead that goes from the glovebox to the back of comand. available at dealers. i forget the p/n though. have a look in the W208 CLK comand how to on this site, i think the part number is in there

Does anyone know if I can get a lead from mb that will run from my mp3 (in glove box) to back of comand 2.5 to plug in the tv in port (i don't have tv function) or an aux in (if there is one.)
If tv in is used then i just can hit tv button on comand when i want mp3.

There is an aux cable as discussed earlier in this thread, it is available from your stealership parts dept and only costs a few pounds.

There is a part number for this item already posted in flyer's comand howto, please search and you will find it :)
