MPG with GAD remap

2015 e63 amg
Hey all, first post. Just bought a beaut e63 amg that was tuned by GAD Tuning. I was never expecting great mpg obviously but using it as a daily driver for the stop start school run I'm getting about 14mpg. Killer. Not much better since I bought the car about 6 weeks ago with 16mpg overall including longer trips. If I remove the remap do we think I'll get better mpg? I spoke to the guys at GAD and he said probably not but just wanted a second opinion. Other threads on here talk about 20+ mpg and I'm nowhere near that. I know it's a bit ridiculous to complain about in this car but just wondering if there are any incremental gains to be had as this car was a financial stretch for me in the first place.

It's an absolute beast!

Any ideas welcome! Thanks.

I would guess that a steady motorway run at 70mph is the only way to check if the car is delivering the mpg it should .
Stop start in traffic is impossible to compare with anyone , we’re you doing 4mph or 8mph ??

I have the same car, with a remap, and the figures you are getting seem about right for town driving.
These cars are not made for pootling around town. It's only when you get them out on long runs with higher speeds do they come into their own. Try a long motor way trip and you may see up to 30mpg if you are careful and keep to the limits.
I got this last November.

Removing the map won't see much in the way of economy I'm afraid but you'll lose that extra quick 0-60 you have now.

Sounds pretty low to be honest. But looks like you're in London doing short journeys for school runs... so the worst possible combo! So maybe teens is right.

I averaged about 23.5mpg over the last 6k miles with remap. Mixed driving, some exuberant, some long cruises, no city just some town. Although 30mpg is apparently achievable it's very rarely likely to happen even on long sedate drives.

Spot on. The school runs are bad enough where I live and its nowhere near as congested and slow moving as London.
If it's economy you are after, the E63 is the wrong choice.

And my answer to your question: no! I don't think remap removal will make a significant difference to mpg. The "problem" is a large capacity V8 in stop/ start traffic with engine probably not reaching anywhere near optimum operating temp on the short runs.

Like @W1ghty suggests maybe take it out for a 20 mile motorway cruise. You should see mid twenties keeping close to legal limits.

Yeah cheers guys. As I suspected. Just trying in vain to get the best of both worlds. My stop/start isn't working 95% of the time either I think because the battery isn't in top condition. £250 to replace it I'm told. Probably such a small increase in mpg to get stop/start working on my 4 miles a day school run that it would be months before the battery paid for itself.

I'm only a couple of miles away from you with a S204 C63 and I'm pretty much getting the same, around 13/14mpg urban, as the traffic around here is pretty bad. On a couple of long trips up north I've had 24mpg.

The joys of London. And children. 🤣

It's a great car you have, so hope you can get used to the low mpg and enjoy it 😁

Try a battery conditioner to see if fully charging the battery kicks the stop start back into life and extends the life of the battery.

But how do you get to enjoy such a powerful car ?

Take it to Germany and do a high speed run on the autobahn.. even numbers (East to west) are best.. 44 is good, lots of straight sections... inn the UK you are better off with a fully specced mondeo... :D

Not much fun going in straight lines .

I would have to take a permanent vacation near the Nordschleife .

AMG;s are not that great around the Nurburgring, they are good at acceleration and ultimate top speed, in corners, Porsche. Ferrari and Lambos rule the roost (with the obvios exeption of the low volume hypercars.. I used to own a 426 BHP TVR, absolutely insanely fast.. really quick around the ring.. a lot faster than my current 440 BHP AMG in cornering
Gazwould, have you taken your car to 180 mph+ ? it is quite a buzz

Yes weight is everything .

Best on track and have done in V12 Aston , 458 and Porkers .

But in the real world with so many cars on the road and hold ups , such a piece of equipment only serves the tax man .

Regular motoring, no matter how many miles you do can be a monotonous and frustrating affair at the best of times. Doing those miles in a V8 makes it so much more bearable, no matter the expense (to me and a fair few people on here at least). But, for many people the justification for that will never be possible

For me, it boils down to one simple question - Why be normal?

I have driven a C204 C63 , a God like car but hated the seats , I'm not large framed and the AMG bucket seats clamp in too much making the miles unbearable, much prefer my seats , best I've ever had.

The opportunity to use the 520 hp was twice, IF it presented itself .
