I've never been to worried about the MPG on my cars as I've only ever had V8 and AMG's.

As a lot of you know I have a S-Class 500L which I have had from new ( 2008 ) and mainly drive it in London, due to my job. Since my Semi-Retirement I have done a few jobs out of town.

Yesterday I drove up to Thetford about 130 miles, left at 06.00 via M25 - M11 and A11. It was early I know. I averaged 64mph and the mpg was 34.8 which I thought was not bad as it has now done 162,000 miles. :D

I only managed 28mpg out my my 2000 CL500 on mostly motorway from Wolverhampton to Cairnryan at 65-70mph, was a little disappointed considering I done a similar journey a few years ago in a 2003 4.2 v8 XJ8 Jag and managed 42mpg. They're around the same weight, albeit the Jag did have a 6th gear, but also had 246,000 miles on it. Couldn't believe how much they varied.

We went to Santapod last year from Belfast in my uncles Chevy Van, 5.7v8, and averaged 16mpg however [emoji23] pretty much all motorway at 65mph

I have managed a might 26mpg on a very gentle motorway run in my '07 CLS63, realistically expect 15mpg round town.

In my E320 CDI though, even with a re-map 50mpg is easily done at a steady 70mph. I actually managed 56.7mpg over a distance of 264 miles. Which for a 3.2 diesel is pretty good.

The OM648 is a great engine Alex. :) Mines now on 266k :D

Even with 4 cylinder deactivation I can only get 34 mpg out of my much lighter SLK 55 on a motorway run at ave mph of about 60

I once saw 31MPG on the computer of my SLK55 (R171), but that was only by driving like a nun. Normally it was 24/25 on a run, 17 around town. 8 MPG at the track! I toasted a whole tank of fuel in 120 miles at Goodwood :)

Cheers,

Gaz

I was just telling 'er indoors about my very pleasant run out this morning in the beautiful sunshine of central France - about 200 kms of cruising around at roughly the speed limits and the fuel consumption was 4.7 ltrs/100 kms or 60 mpg.

Not bad for a 2.7 remapped diesel eh ?

It really is a bit of a gem! I never realised it when buying my E Class but it's proven to be genuinely excellent. I had mine re-mapped last year which made a noticeable difference and a slight improvement on MPG but torque, power and responsiveness were definitely improved.

I do mostly motorway driving so that mid-range is where it counts otherwise it's just leisurely cruising.

Mine is a baby with 137k on it. I'm on a FB group for the W211 and one chap has 300k on his E320 and another has 600k on his E270! Crazy.

Must admit I have never driven mine like a nun.
Normally 24 mpg in sport on 9 miles of Welsh country road into to town , 28 mpg in eco mode on 20 miles of fast A roads, am very surprised how reasonable the consumption is, alway use Tesco Momentum or Shell V- Power though, tried 95 Ron once and noticed performance and mpg down.

Out of Brutus, if you guys can see the pic, The Estate i struggle to get 29mpg
