I've heard from multiple people about this thread and I've let it continue.

I (and rest of admin) get accused of being too heavy handed/power hungry and not being consistent with rules. And yet we are also asked to deal with petty bickering between middle aged men.

Do I lock the thread? Do I have a word with those who could be seen as winding up a new member? Do I ask the new person to just turn the other way and ignore those people?

Or, do I just hope that grown adults can just act as such and use the forum and respect other members as well as the rules?

I get the impression that @DesireeE prefers to fight their own battles rather than go running to admin to complain. Moaning to the administrators about the actions of others is what we expect from children like Max Verstappen.

Without doubt, there are one or two members here who seem to relish every opportunity to antagonise others. Just like school bullies, what they enjoy the most is getting a reaction. Most of us just ignore them, but sometimes someone like @DesireeE stands up to them and they don't like it. Then just like the school bully they go to their friends to try to muster support, knowing that they're incapable of withstanding resistance on their own. It's standard procedure.

Most of us are can't be bothered with the aggro, so we tell the 'bully' to FO and we block them. But occasionally someone will attempt to stop the intolerable behaviour because they don't want to see others subjected to it. Telling on the perpetrator isn't in their DNA, they prefer to deal with such matters directly. I can't help but admire people who stick up for themselves like that.

Well said and 100% on point with regards to DSM10000, although I will speak with admin if I feel they can help.

At last someone who is astute enough to actually see where I am coming from.

Unignored to see how this went....back on to ignore!.... what a very strange and self important person you are....you seem to have a knack of posting in a way that will clearly antagonise....but not be directly abusive.... which is why I i have not said anything to admin as i feel you not have posted anything actually offensive...just grating (and not just on this thread)...and why you are the only member on "ignore"! I'm surprised so many are standing up for you to be honest. You took offence at me saying I thought you were AI...it was not a personal dig...just an observation that your writing style is similar to AI posts we sometimes get here (and other forums im on)....loads of words with no depth and often very little fact.

I’ve just gone back 10 days to the start of this post to try to remind myself what @DesireeE posted to cause “all the grief”.

Their first post was a comprehensive account of the way that they do the mpg calculation. Your immediate response was to label it as condescending - something that I certainly didn’t think of it. My engineering MSc meant that I didn’t need the detail, but far be it from me to declare that nobody else needed the thorough explanation.

Perhaps I’m fortunate in being able to quickly identify things that I either don’t need or have no interest in, and so scroll by. It’s really not that difficult. (Sorry if that sounded condescending to you.)

As Karl recently said, we should be adult enough to respect each other. We shouldn’t be taking so much offence at what others post. Instead of jumping down people’s throats, be more like Elsa in Frozen and Let It Go.
