 Just heard it on Sky news:devil:

Words fail me.

Anybody else here getting a rise in this recession? I guess not many.

my partner just got a £2.80 ph pay rise.
only because hes out of his training period, and is fully qualified, but its still a massive amount

mps should be on enought to live a healthy life, not a life of luxury!

I believe they are foregoing the rise if they are ministers too but will make up for it on their expenses* no doubt.

*The MP investigating the expenses claims will be receiving an extra £1,400 pm

MP's money should be linked to nurses pay.
What other industry votes and decides on its own pay rise?

I have said it before and I will say it again:

1. The Government is decided through Voting - do your part next time!
2. In my next life I'll be a politician - great pay (obviously) and loads of benefits for doing as little as possible.

As a side note, every government in every country do this - ie only think about themselves, so why are we all so suprised every time it happens?!

According to the news, it is (kinda).

New rules introduced last year fixed the increase at the average received over the past year by 15 different groups of public sector workers, ranging from judges and senior military officers to teachers, NHS workers and local council employees.

The Forces will be getting a pay rise but so far, the Armed Forces Pay Review Board haven't let on how much!!!

Its funny, I was told yesterday we werent going to get any payrises at all this year, have to say wage deflation (unless your an MP) seems to be the only thing deflating, my 'leccy, food, Petrol and Council tax bills all seem to be going up...

I'm not so bothered about their % rise. I'd like to know how their total remuneration package compares against the European average.

Having expenses for running a second home when your first home is only 10 miles away is farcical to me.

Oh, what a spoilsport you are...just when the moaners were getting off on another political rant over nothing...

He works for the DWP ;)

Not over nothing I would say. With lots of us losing jobs, not getting pay rises I think its fair as tax payers to expect that those who serve us not to vote themselves extra money. The public sector is a racket. A 2.33% pay rise when folk are losing their jobs, and revenues is down.

Utterly disgusting. If they have extra money floating about to buy sleazy films they should be using to cut the money we pay them to deliver the sorry excuse for public services that they provide.

I suspect I am not alone...

I didn't say anything about Public Sector, I actually agree with your comments.
I Just said that fyon telling the truth about how MP's salary is paid would spoil a good moan...;)

Hey, you're not supposed to quote me, it upsets people...;) :D

Well I be damned ;)

Even better and more honorable of the MP's is to donate that extra 2.33% (how on earth that was derived I do not know) is to donate it to a charity....

With Sir Fred on the news and the slating he is getting over his actions, doing the "right" thing may actually be doing the "right thing".

Interesting - in the Great Depression ALL public sector employees (except the police) and all people on benefits took a 10% pay cut (police 5%).

Wonder how that would go down in this economy ..suppose the Unions are too well advanced now.

Oh and the only one to complain were the Judges (the highest paid at the time)..

Well I suppose the increase in expenses will allow them to watch more porn films....and run second homes for all their family as they live in their relatives' bed sits...

So if you kip a couple of nights a week in your sister's or brother' gaff, is said sister or brother taxed on renting out part of their property? Or is there something about if you have a lodger you dont pay tax on that income. An MP as a lodger, surely that is very downstream. "Non of the above" comes to mind.

Did the Invergordon mutiny not happen around that time because of the structure of the Navy pay cuts?
