My cousin & his friend were mugged last night at knife point by a group of girls in Aberdeen city center @ 1230am. They are thankfully okay as they handed over their money and were taken at knife point to a cash point where on they were made to hand over the money in their a/cs.

IIRC a bank card won't allow a withdrawl of >£300 so the muggers have £600 + two mobile phones and whatever else was on them @ the time.

I am just relieved they are fine, but it does make you think twice about late nights out, having money on you etc.

My mother of course can't get it into her head that girls are capable of this, and both the fellas are big heavy guys (rugger bugg3rs) so its quite surprising.

They haven't yet reported the crime to the boys in blue, but I think they'll be interested in this due to the nature of the crime and the likelihood of evidence in CCTV form.

Why ????...

A girl who behaves like that gives up her right to be treated any differently to a male antagonist.

Your cousin and his friend are lame and have ensured that their assailants are further emboldened to commit such an attack again.

A swiftly delivered broken jaw on the other hand.....

It does appear strange to not report this immediately as the chances of detection reduce and their card issuers and insurance companies may take a dim view.

I'm interested to have read your comments as they don't seem to fit with your general comments on CCTV and Police.

True.

Personally I'd hand over the dosh if confronted with the pointed end of a blade by someone who gives the impression that they're prepared to use it. I guess that makes me lame, too

All muggers rely on shock and surprise to achieve their objective. I wouldnt mind betting most of us would have done the same in similar circumstances.
Sitting in our safe homes or office in the cold light of day its easy to say what should or should not have been done.
One day, maybe tonight, these girls WILL pick on the wrong people and get absolutely hammered. Maybe even have their own weapons used against them.
Live by the sword....................

Not lame.................honest.....

In our dreams..

Its not a dream..................
People who act like this dont have the intelligence to know when to stop. They will carry on commiting this type of crime until that day comes.
The combination of greed and stupity should not be underestimated.

I don't like CCTV and it didn't do them much good-but I bet a patrol/beat copper would have. I want to give the boys in blue the benefit of the doubt and see how they handle this. As they haven't been informed they can't yet "solve the crime". My bet is the CCTV will form a substancial part of their enquiries-lets just see how useful it will be now its going to put to the test.

People say that CCTV deters crime, erm, in this case I don't think so. It may aid in their capture, but then the punishment they'll get will be pitiful.

I would have hoped they would have fought back, and they are big fellas capable of defending themselves so I was surprised too but I tend to agree with what was written here.

Is risking your life really worth it for a few hundred quid and a mobile phone you won't have in 2 years.

I'm surprised at the approach you're taking on this given your hard line on other issues on this forum. Maybe because it's closer to home?

It's the principal of the matter. Those things are mine, not someone elses. I worked for them, saved for them and I'll be damned if someone thinks they can take them without a fight (not necessarily a physical one)

If your mates had just been mugged for their phones it would be one thing. But then allowing a bunch of girls to escort them to a cash-point and wait while they emptied their accounts, that's beyond credulity. The situation gives you plenty of opportunities for fight or flight.

Sure it happened like they said? They'd have called 999 straight away if that was the case. Sure they weren't playing at wide boys and got ripped off trying to buy drugs or sex?

I'd have loved it of they fought back, and I would like to think I would too, but would I have? I don't know the ins and outs of it all, but if there were a significant number of them, would a fight have done any good, the outcome would have just been worse for them, and the level of justice afforded to these thugs just pityful (couple of years behind bars).

A few years back a lone mugger attempted a to get a group of us, we fended him off without breaking a sweat, but if it were the other way around.

Come to think of it, why didn't they just run away.

Very true, and I like to think I'd have done more to guard my things but its probably quite a frightening thing to go through, and whilst they're not the toughest, they're not the weakest either.

They're not the brightest it has to be said, and probably a bit too much beer inside them made them sitting ducks.

Pretty sure, they're not like that. Good honest beer drinkers. Without a mobile they'd have had to wait to go home, or find the police station and report it in person.

No phone boxes in Aber, then.?

Thats so 20th century. Although he is my cousin and the closest I got to a brother, he is completely incapable of organising/sorting out/doing anything. Initiative, he doesn't know the meaning of the word.

He didn't even know that if a phone is knicked, it can be locked.

Given the description I might avoid using the words the closest I got to a brother,. ;)

There are many salient facts that we are not privy too. For example how many girls there were, whether they all had knives and the condition for the men involved.
For example, there could have been 8-10 girls, all tooled up and the 2 guys could have been rat-faced, barely able to stand through either drink or something else. This COULD be a reason maybe why police wern't summoned straight away.
I am not casting aspersions, merely expressing a very hypothetical theory.

:) Yep - they have those kind of special cousins in the southern states of the US

:)

But you posted the incident here at nearly 3pm and said that they hadn't reported it. That isn't disorganised. That isn't lacking initiative.

Bet they got robbed by a couple of prossies :D
