Today was a "Surrey Muscle" meet at Krispy Kremes at New Malden. Some interesting metal there:

Hello, great set of photos ! Think i saw some of those cars this evening while out and about in the SLK, wondered where they were going to / coming from, now i know !! regards Damian. :)

Saw a few in Cambridge this evening even though we are nowhere near it...

I took a short clip of the green Hemi Cuda as he moved across the street to the main area. I started recording on the digital camera to catch a clip of the sound of this monster. Didn't know he was about to do what he did!

Linky

Mmmm I love classic hotrods & yank muscle cars! Happened upon a hotrod meet at a diner in Kingman on Route 66!

Is it me, or am I alone when I say I just don't get the yankie car thing? I mean, if I have to make any kinda choice and nothing else was available for transport other than a bicycle, I suppose it would be a Shelby Mustang, but even that won't go around a corner in any sorta fashion other than sideways that is...

I'm in HEAVEN! they are gorgeous!
That slammed tri-chevy (59?) is sooooooooooo nice!

That's what AMG's are for; normal-looking car+big V8 PLUS brakes and suspension=muscle cars that can go, stop and corner

Oh man, i didn't know this was on. I would've loved to have gone along :(

My point exactly, and err all things you highlight, (with respect), american muscle cars all struggle to do, with maybe the slight exception of the latest Corvette, but certainly none of the ones pictured above. :)

Sorry just not a fan. (They make good V8 engines though). :)

You fail to consider that you are comparing a newer AMG Merc with American Iron that is forty years old.

Let's compare period vehicles...American we will compare Z28 Camaro, Shelby Mustang, Ford Cobra.
They regularly outhandled Porsche, Jag, and Aston Martin on road courses.

There was no "showroom" Euro car that could keep up with any of these vehicles on a road course...and straight line it was truly no contest !!!

Let me comment on two vehicles that I have personal experience with...
1966 Aston Martin DB-6 Vantage spec
1968 Ford Cobra 427 side oiler.
On a road course the Aston handled in an antiquated manner compared to the Cobra.
Price new of 1966 Aston was USD $14K, the 1968 Cobra about USD $6K

Don't knock what you haven't experienced...the show obviously had cars set up for straight line acceleration..

In 1968 Mercedes had what ????

Today the best Merc has can't match the Corvette ZR-1 which sells for one third the price of a SLR

Regretfully we must give credit where credit is due !!!

But this video didnt really show a very well handling car.. looked a bit messy if you ask me.. or the driver was just a bit pants..:dk:

The 2009 ZR-1 lapped the Nurburgring at 7:26.4 whilst the McLaren SLR managed a 7:40 time.
A 2005 Z06 lapped at 7:42.99
Another piece of American Iron the Viper SRT-10 was even faster at 7:22.1

American cars don't always look pretty on a road course but somehow, even though a very brutal and scary ride, they will be fast ;)

Completely agree, these cars are legendary. A generation of cars spawned purely by the want to go fast, what's not to love? An the sound of a big yank V8 is heavenly even next to the gorgeous sound of some of todays AMG machinery.

I'd have an old challenger, charger, 'cuda etc in a heartbeat if i could afford it

Funny you mention the cars above. The owners of the company I work for (in North America) have amongst their collections Viper SRT-10, Charger SRT8 Super Bee, and Vette ZR-1 - as well as Eclipse Jets and Cessna Citation jets!

I don't know how old most of the members are but do you recall the name "Jack Sears" ?

This article about "ill handling Yank Iron of the sixties" should give you a good chuckle !!!

I love all cars...was Yank Muscle car owner driver in the 60's and 70's...
Became an Anglophile and owned Jag MKII's. Astons and a standard steel Roller in the 80's...

Now in my twilight years...I'm all Merc. all the time !!!!

Here is some eye candy for you...

My 1964 factory lightweight max-performance Hemi...one of fifty made..
Sold it in 1973 for $3500
But I recall Bob Grossman ex NART/Luigi Chinetti Racing driver selling a 1962 Ferrai GTO for $6500 :eek:

Back then no one wanted old race cars...and now in Grossman's case they are worth many, many millions !!!

And my later more ecletic life...
My 1966 Aston Martin DB-6 Vantage spec in the paddocks at Lime Rock..
RHD car that I sent back to the UK in 1997..in trade for a US spec XK8 , BRG with a Lister stripe and Arden mods :thumb:

DB6-1.jpg

The XK8 was traded in 2004 for a G55

MVC-001S.jpg

Then I bought a 2006 C6

C6-9.jpg

Which was then traded in 2007 for a 1971 280SL W113

280SL-L-1.jpg

I'm really getting too old for this stuff but.....
Now I've gone completely daft and continue my build of the Stratton's 1AMG widebody C124 :bannana:
