If you have a sub in your car and like a funky tune, grab yourself a copy of Flashdance by Deep Dish (from your local specialist music store of course).

Play it loud and wait for the bass guitar to come in during the guitar rift in the middle of the track.

I have some big bass tunes, but this is new and different. Try it.

Any DJ Magic Mike in that collection? ;-) Will have to email you a track from one of my Boston Acoustic CDs.

One of the finest subwoofer demo tracks is, believe it or not, Spinning the Wheel by George Michael.

Play that through most systems and people think yes, so what? But take the covers of the speakers off and you may see the cones of flapping around to no audible effect.

Some so called subwoofers do not do much better either.

But if you switch in a decent powered subwoofer (i.e capable of reproducing a 20Hz signal properly) there is a huge amount of very low frequency which just amazes most people.

I'll give that go!

A mate of mine showed his audio system off with that tune, I thought he'd gone mad buying a George Michael album but you know what, it DID sound good on his setup! :)

If you want a pressie for somebody with a subwoofer buy them the Telarc version of the 1812 Overture (Telarc CD-80541 or SCAD 60541 or DVD-A 70541)

Why?

"Caution! Digital Cannons," - 8 Hz at high levels!

The cannons of the Telarc 1812 Overture are recorded at a very high level.
Lower levels are recommended for initial playback until a safe level can be determined for your equipment.

Available in 2-channel CD and 6-Channel Discrete Multi-Channel Surround and Stereo SACD as well as DVD-Audio."

These are the test tracks used by a US Audiophile tester:

1: Quincy Jones, Back on the Block (Warner Bros.), “The Places You Find Love.”

Unless you’ve real bass in your system, you’ve probably never heard the strong 35- to 40-Hz segments.

2: Bass Connection, Drivin’ Bass (Neurodisc), “Pure and Perfect Bass".

Infrasonic content down to 12 Hz that will truly test any subwoofer. Played on powerful subwoofer may induce structural resonances of house. Use with care.

3: Virgil Fox (Laserlight) Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D Minor.

A true subwoofer will reproduce the 16- and 32-Hz fundamentals of the organ with full force. Very few subwoofers can produce 16 Hz with authority but the better subs will give full effect to the 32-Hz.

Lesser units will just reproduce the second harmonic louder than the fundamental, Sometimes a very low note simply doesn’t appear.

4: Yello, Flag (Uni/Mercury), “The Race.”

Bad video, but the track features high level 30- to 50-Hz content.

Oh dear

You could also try 'Strange Cargo' by William Orbit, I believe one of the hi fi mags used to use it for testing the bass on the speaker reviews, i have a copy of it and let me assure you it goes bonkers low !!!!!

Is that a track name or the album (or both)? Can't seem to find the track.

No no no people! :)

Look in your local music store for anything by Dillinja. (Drum&Bass)

This guy is in the Guiness book of records for owning the worlds loudist Sound system called VALVE which consists of around 80 Subs and tours clubs with it.

Any of his CD's are pure Bassline etc

another great bass work out favoured by audiophiles is Danny's All Star Joint by Ricky Lee Jones - needs to be listened to on a really tight system to appreciate it.

Hokey Croaky, my mistake, its by a group called 'Bedrock' and the song is called 'Beautiful Strange (ambient mix) ' i believe the so-called ambient mix is by William Orbit.

If its any use, you can find it Track 13, Disc 2 on the Ministry of Sound 'The Chillout Session'

There's quite a few good little tracks on there - you can pick the album up on Ebay for next to nothing - like this one !

'Guns don't kill people, rappers do.' :p :D The video is funny, still not as cool as the Eric Prydz video though.

Still haven't seen the Eric ... video yet - must download it tonight or tomorrow.

The Goldie Lookin Chain cd is hilarious. Really had me laughing, but then again I find most Welsh people entertaining for no particular reason. ;-)
