My 2012 C63 Coupe

Looks fantastic - enjoy!

I had this issue after fitting new tyres and tracking and balancing done, turned out the torque arms needed to be replaced, and it has completely transformed the car.. The dealer told me that many needed to be replaced due to a fault. It was accompanied by a clicking noise at low speeds

Interested in the clicking noise as my 507 had this for most of my ownership - in and out of MB with bulletins from MB saying it was a 507 wheel issue and the fix was to file away some of the inner face of the wheel - it never got resolved. Only apparent when loading up a wheel at low speed say going around a roundabout and was both fronts. Removing and refitting the wheels would reduce the noise for a while.

3) Dash rattle(s)! There's an annoying rattle in the middle of the dash somewhere. Something I can fix myself, or is it a dealer warranty job hoping they don't make it worse?
Epson wasn't able to fix dash rattle in my car. They kept car for almost a week and it started rattling half an hour later on a way home.

If you can deal with it yourself, it will be much more effective and you probably won't generate new source of rattle.

Hi!

What has been your experience with Epsom overall? Good/bad?

So just over 3 weeks with the car, and I'm moaning less about the fuel economy. Am I getting used to it!? Maybe! Do I wish it was more... Yes! Do I love the noise? Absol-flipping-lutely!

It fits in my garage which has pleased me no end! I get to park it up overnight and means I can do some limited fettling while it's in there too. I also get to experience a cold start in the garage too, still doesnt get boring.

I'm starting to get a bit of confidence with hustling it around now, and it's a bit of weapon. I've come from a lighter/smaller S2000, and even the big gap between the weight/size of the two, it's still a lot of fun to hustle about. It is also very forgiving with the TC too.

I've narrowed my rattles down to 3/4 places:-

1) Speedo/Instrument Cluster... There's definitely something around this area which is loose/tapping. It seems pretty consistent.
2) Mesh grill along the top of the dashboard. This is either number 1, which is sounding like it's coming from this area, or it's a separate rattle.
3) Command/Vents/Heater controls. There's something here too, although a quick spray of silicon spray has solved/eased this one.
4) Roof... The bloody panoramic roof! It's starting a rattling/fast pitched creaking noise now. WTF? It can be instantly stopped by just pushing up a little bit on it. I'm hoping a simple re-grease of the seals and joints etc will solve this one.

Waiting for a nice day to tackle these. I have bought silicon spray, spray grease, felt loom tape, gummi-pflege, and trim removal tools. Bring it on.

Sounds like you've got all the required things to resolve them - let us know how you get on and good luck!:thumb:

Good experience with Epsom regarding service. However they wasted a lot of petrol why trying to fix dash rattle. I assume they did a lot of test drives.

In my case rattle is coming from mid console vents. After Epsom fiddled with it, there's some rattle from driver vent as well.

I think you will have better luck fixing it yourself.

I never had problem with fuel economy, it's just short range which is annoying. If there's a huge queue on motorway, you'd better have significant amount of petrol in your tank.

Nice car matey... Only 2 more days till I get mine ! Quite surprised at your fuel economy too . was that a mixture of driving styles, or did you drive sedately ?

And this was a new car! Iam seriously considering buying one and have 2 test drives this weekend at different places. If I bought one and had that sort of issue it would go a long way to ruining the experience. And the tracking as well? Aren't you a little bit miffed or is the sound so glorious you overlook it?
By the way how do other cars treat you- try to race or see what you are and give up?

Lovely looking car!

I'm interested to see how you get on with the rattles.....I've got some anti rattle felt for the trim by the speedo/centre screen. Just need to find the time to get them off.

The sunroof is ongoing. I managed to stop it for a bit by tightening the 2 x nuts at the rear of the frame but it has returned. Doh.

The drivers seat squeaks like a stuck pig though and the car is going back to the dealers for the third attempt to fix it.

Other than that, the car is coming to the end of the finance deal in May, I'll be exercising the option to purchase. It's that good. Enjoy.

I can't get over the number of members with dash rattles and squeaks in their C63's.
Really not good enough for a £60k+ car.

Does it really matter that much?
My seat squeaks so I adjust it a bit it goes away then comes back again. My window seal lets air in so I give it a bit of lube now and then ! When the windows are open or closed I'm only listening to sound of this wonderful engine.
Our cars have imperfections like us a few squeaks and creaks don't spoil the experience for me I just crank up the volume whether that be the Eagles or accelerator pedal to vanish the annoyance.
Keep smiling nothing in life is perfect even an AMG.( damn close though)

^I understand what you mean, but do the equivalent models from BMW and Audi have creaking dashboards and seats? I love the sound of the C63, but it would annoy me after time I think.

It does. It spoils the experience. How can I enjoy this great engine sound when it's accompanied by dash rattle? For me it's a deal breaker.

Turning up the music is not an option, I want to hear the engine.

Hi Steve, annoyingly most of my miles are around my local market town and surrounding towns. My commute to the station is 6-7 miles. With all this in mind, I think it's acceptable?

I do make a point of getting rid of the MPG screen though, to the audio/nav etc, otherwise I obsess over it too much.

I didn't notice it on the test drive, but that's probably because I was like a dog with two sausages.

The tracking issue was resolved by the tyre pressures being set correctly.

It doesnt really take away from the car at the minute. I am guessing 1-2 hours of my time will get it to a more than acceptable level. People who ride in it, have only noticed the panoramic roof squeak/rattle and that is the easiest to resolve I think.

The car gets a lot of attention in traffic, and people walking past etc. Cars let me out the same as before too. The boy racer crew love getting up in my bumper, but I've never been to fussed by responding to stuff like that. Let them have their fun.

I don't blame you, hopefully if I move nearer the station next year, it can become the fun/weekend car for when the inevitable children come along.

What nuts are you referring to at the back of the frame, any pics?

You win some, you lose some. I'd rather drive this and have a couple of rattles I can resolve, than drive a boring (to me) mile muncher.

I admire your thoughts there, but sometimes I just want the stereo on a lower volume and to sit back a bit! I do however, seem to just lower the windows slightly to take in the noise and general ambiance.

I have not had any rattles on the interior on mine.
I have just hit 1k miles of motoring in my C63 and averaged 18.1mpg for the time I have owned the car. I have done a fair bit of motorway driving where I get upto 26mpg if I use cruise control at 70mph. Around town/city driving I average 12-16mpg but I keep it in Sports or Sports plus most of the time. The noise is too addictive, I try to stay in comfort mode with the radio on but within minutes I have it back in sports and the window down.

The car gets a lot of attention!

If it's such an issue and can't be resolved hand it back and get them to find a suitable replacement or your money back.

Hopefully the pics are clear enough.....I nipped these up and it made a bit of a difference.

I gotta say, 2 weeks into ownership of my C63, it`s really quiet inside my cabin. Mine is a 13 plate, so maybe the previous owner addressed any issues ( if any). No squeaks, rattles, or otherwise. If I had to be really picky, there is a very slight vibration coming from the top of my seatbelt housing where it retracts back in on itself, but if I touch it, it disappears. Its not the end of the world though....
