my 1989 300 sl is running poorly after i put vpower fuel into it. the car ran perfectly until i was running low on fuel and decided to pull over for some fuel.i then put in 10 pounds of vpower fuel in. after that i pulled of the forecourt and the car started coughing and spurting also smoking.. i managed to get home eventually. any ideas please

High octane fuel should not cause a problem like this. More likely its because your tank was low you sucked up some debris or even water at the bottom of the tank into the fuel system. You will maybe have to drain / clean out the system??

Got to ask ... any chance you might have put V-Power diesel in by mistake?

Diesel would stop the engine completely after is has passed through.

I had a similar problem with my 300SL but it died completely. The Car Recovery Company took me to local dealer - It turned out to be water in tank. They drained the system, fitted new fuel filter and plugs and I've had no problems since.

10 pounds worth of V-Power diesel would only be about 8 litres I think. Most M-B gauges are pretty conservative (you have more fuel left than you think), so it's possible there was a 50% or higher petrol mixture after topping up. I don't think that would stop an engine dead.
