My '94 201 passed its MOT today with very little wrong, I'm made up.

I don't get on here enough these days, but felt I needed to share this. Only thing needed sorting was n/s track rod end. Total for test, labour, parts and VAT was a shade over £170. Looks like I'm keeping it another 12 months!!

Nice!

You have a 1994 190E too. So have I. I wonder is yours a sister car to mine, as I saw a black one on AutoTrader not too long ago a few digits away from my own numberplate.

Great result :)

Shouldn't speak too soon, but having owned several W201 190E's over the years, I've never had a single one fail an MOT, and only two of them have ever had an advisory (both very minor issues that I was aware of and intended to fix soon after).

Considering the age/mileages of these various cars, I would say that it was a good indication of quality - especially as I'm referring to half a dozen different cars and 3 or 4 different MOT testing stations over 9 or 10 years! :thumb:

I must say that having now had my W201 for a few months and having spotted a few rather cleverly thought out design features I'm beginning to think that they are better bolted together than even the fabled W124.

As well you might:p The bolts are certainly closer together on the 190 as they are awfull small:D

Ive had them both and love the classic style of each. Is one screwed together better than the other, for me, a distinguished draw:thumb:

Yep - both great cars and they obviously do share many parts, but to be honest a W124 is a slight class above - interior build quality has the edge, better door card design, more spacious/luxurious - carpeted boot, better soundproofing, legroom etc.

Pre-facelift 124 and 201 though is a tough draw to call mechanically though :o

My 1988 190 2.0 carb is due an MOT in about a month so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. First MOT under my ownership and only done about 1500 miles since last one. It's currently SORN for the winter but I'll probably tax it from 1st Feb on the old MOT. I've a feeling though it's going to need a steering damper as I think the old one's leaking a bit - simple job, I know.
