The same goes for Shude. I am confused as to his madness. I think his point is his lock is corroded and doesnt work anyway, but I'd settle for a new lock with a different key for emergencies.

I have the battery in my boot, as Graham states. The lock is busted and the stealership want about £120+VAT for just the lock, never mind the fitting. It's only £100 to have the lock removed/welded up/painted. Let's face it, if the battery had failed in the last year I would have been screwed anyway.

I am going to work out a way to pop open the folding rear seats without having to get into the boot to do it. That way if the battery fails I can get into the car with the slim metal key, pop open the folding seats and get to the battery.

Guys, my wife came home yesterday and told me that the ASR dash warning light is on. Still comes on after restarting the engine so looks like a trip to the dealers tomorrow

Any idea if this is covered under Signature Warranty ??

just dont tell them you had a go yourself as it may invalidate the warranty.

Cheers Greg, much appreciated.

K: No fear mate. We went through helllll with a stealership when we bought our Benz. As a gesture of good will etc, we secured a 3 year warranty + next service, all FOC. We've had the car over a year now and have had to call on that warranty many times. In fact, if it wasn't for the warranty we'd have dumped Mercedes a long time ago.

Now sorted.

Was a faulty brake switch. Took half an hour at the stealership this morning. All done under warranty.

Also, had a good look at the new E-class....looks rather nice.

ABS, ESP, BAS lights all came on in my auntie's V Reg C240 Sport a few weeks ago when the brake pedal was depressed. Restart the car did not fix the problem. They were thinking of taking it to the dealer to have it checked out ( not under warranty ). Left it until last weekend and I went to the dealer to get one of the brake light switch as suggested by some of the postings here ( as this is the cheapest option - £9). Took me half an hour to replace the switch because that was my first attempt and had some problem with the bonnet cable.

Started the car and depress the brake pedal and everything are working now. No resetting of the computer was needed.

Dismantled the old and oil soaked ( obviously used by the previous attempt to fix the problem ) brake light switch. One of the terminal contact was badly burnt out.

2 hours of stealership labour saved and one happy customer.

Boo Hoo, Boo Hoo............

It's not fair.

My lights still on!

I had trouble with that bonnet release cable as well
