Some of you will have read about the extensive work I have recently had done on my SL600.

Last night I went down to collect her after she spent just over 4 weeks at PCS having both head gaskets replaced. (Due to parts availability I might add).

Well it turned out to be a mamouth job, taking far longer than anyone expected and having to have many other parts replaced on the way, things you wouldn't necessarily think of as part of doing the heads, for example new engine mounts as the original ones, although ok, were showing signs of wear and would have been false economy to leave and new distrubutor caps and rotor arms amoung other items!

It was lovely to get back in her and hear that silky smooth V12 purring again, she drove without fault!

I can't thank Olly & Jack enough for the excellent service I recieved, the care and consideration and the meticulous manner in which they went about carrying out such a huge task. Nothing was left to chance and nothing was too much trouble! The end result is superb! :)

If anyone out there is considering using PCS and has any reservations then please contact me and I will put your mind at rest.

Olly & Jack, I take my hat off to you both and Olly, I hope you enjoy your well earned holiday!

All the best,

Leigh.:)

Excellent news, I saw your car when I was getting some work done recently. Lovely looking car you have their :)

Glad to hear she is back, and I trust that you enjoyed the drive home.
I'm sure that you enjoyed excellent service and knowledge.

It was a pleasure but hard graft. I would do another if anyone has one to do.....

Thanks for the Beer Leigh. Just having one now.

You are more than welcome, enjoy! Has anyone else got a SL600 on here?

That is the true mark of a good mechanic. Saving YOU hassle in the long term by saving on HIS labour.

Well played !

Mine's a 500, but I'm curious as to the mileage yours has done, Leigh, and if the work done would be typical (I was thinking about buying an S600 a while back)?

It must be great to have it back, and from what I've read, the standard of work carried out was to be expected!:thumb:

Mine has done 75K. One of the heads had a slight coolant leak from the rear but the main reason for doing them was the 'H' seals at the front which had become hardened over the years and were leaking oil badly. A common problem on the straight six aswell, mine being two straight six's bolted together efffectively.

The only way to replace the seals is to remove the heads! There were other age related issues such as the sheathing on the wiring loom that had perished, rendering it useless and some breather hoses that had hardened etc.

I don't know if the engine would have to come out on a straight six to do the heads, mine did because there just wasn't any room to move.

An unfortunate bill to have to cough up for, but very satisfying knowing the extent of work that's been taken care of. Here's to the next 75k of trouble free motoring!
