2015 E Class coupe 220 diesel bluetec, 2009 Mitsubishi Colt 1.3
Got my V5 through the post yesterday for my dark metallic blue CLK but on the logbook it states the body colour is black.
The car does almost look black but is blue as I have some touch up paint which came with the car and is labelled Mystic Blue.
Anyone else with the same discrepancy?

Do you have colour number 189 by any chance? It is described as anything from blue, green or black, depends on the light conditions but generally it looks blue...?

Another vote for that. I had an S-class in it which the seller had advertised as 'midnight blue.' Looks amazing when cleaned and polished and terrible when it's dirty.

send me your reg or pref your VIN and I will see what the actual build colour is listed as

Its all to do with the literal translation from the German

199 BLAUSCHWARZ (or something) "black blue" which is actually grey but called black on the log book !

189 SMARAGDSCHWARZ (or something) "green black" which also called black on log book

Yours could be mistralblau 955 or midnight blue 904 who knows !!

The police only deal in basic colours, so when they are looking for a stolen car they would not have a clue what Mystic Blue is (could be nearly black, could be eggshell 1950s Morris Minor colour) so they simply declare the approximate nature of the colour. So the DVLA aren't interested in the exact Paltone reference.

So when plod is looking out for your pride and joy they know Black means something like a black colour which can include dark blue.

I'm sure that the manufacturers and the police have a convention on how to map the colours.

The only interest the Police have in car colours is when playing "Car Snooker". Your car could well cost some poor bobby a game if "potted" too early! ;)

OK everyone I am not that bothered it is just I have never come across this before.I am not keen on giving vin numbers out as I don't wish to be cloned.

Had a 260E back in the day, was coloured petrol Blue, log book said green:confused:

you do know your VIN is available for view from the front passenger window and from your registration number? Giving out your VIN should not pose you at any greater risk of being cloned.

Yes but they will have to physically look through the car window to see it instead of posting up on line for all to see.

Pink was always the hardest to get - but not any more, thanks to girlie Micras...

Curious...would it be illegal to cover up that VIN? I don't intend to.

No its not a legal requirement, but as I said its not a security issue as your vin is available from your registration plate

So in that case my CLK looks like it is worth 7 but in reality it is only worth 5 points.
