Hi to all. Last weekend went to look at a replacement car (Honda 4x4) and asked sales exec to value my car. Luckily i'd washed it day before and it looked good for the piccies he took. I received email last night giving a trade-in value of £2,500, i nearly hit the floor. I realise it has 172k mls on clock and is only in Good (not excellent) condition but, do you think he is far off the mark? I checked the on-line Vauxhall Glasses guide and it comes out at £3,400 to £3,700. Any thoughts please?

It has full MB/MB indie stamps, 12 mths MOT & Road Tax.

Probably sign of the times, have you thought about sticking it on Ebay with a realistic reserve to get something more like the price you want?

Whats the deal on the Honda though?

Its the price to change that matters not what you think its worth and also thats worse case price, selling it privately you may get more. The millage will hit the value (and buyers) big time so thats taken a big dent.

If the Honda price is lower than anywhere buy a couple of thousand then the price is good? it all depends on the deal. He could offer 1K for your car if he knocked 7k off the honda....

Or Give you 4K for your but you pay list on the honda...

With your online guide did you put the millage in? What about if you ask the dealer thats way to low I was expecting £3500 and see if he comes up a bit? at 2.5K take the command out and sell it on fleabay for £500 :)

as I say depends on the prices to change there the only figures worth looking at as long as your happy.

TBH that's what I'd have expected. Your car will go straight out to the trade, and he knows he's going to get bid low because of the mileage. Hence he's leaving enough headroom to make sure he doesn't get burnt.

I'm not sure Glasses goes up to the mileage of your car anyway, so the figures would probably be a bit lower than you've quoted. I'm sure regular users will be able to confirm that, but I recall it stops at about 120 or 150k?

What did you expect?

It's an 02 plate car with 170k on the clock. Just think if you'd bought a Mundano you probably have to pay to get rid of it to the trade.

What you've got to remember is, what is the dealer going to do with your car when it's been part exchanged? Who is going to want a 170k C-class? When they can get a 80k one for probably £20 a month more...

Thanks for replies. I didn't have a specific vehicle in mind, just told the sales exec it would depend on the trade in price as to what i would be looking to buy. Yes your right, the Glasses guide ceilings at 150k mls. Seems like i will have to reconsider what year of CR-V i can afford. Reason for CR-V is, i'm planning to retire to Cyprus Oct time (4x4 ideal) and i believe one has to have owned the vehicle being transferred for min of 6 mths in order not to be stung for VAT and excise duty, i think i'm right on this?

Just checked the CAP prices and this is what I get back to me on my system:-

Clean:3,175.00 Avg:2,787.50 Below:2,387.50

All (most) cars are running of the mark at the moment. I think the salesman wasn't trying to kid you and he would probably get bid in the trade between £2,000 and £2,500 for the car.

As for the CRV I can't really help there as I know nothing about them, I deal in Skodas and Alfa Romeos mainly.
