Like I said, it's changed a lot since I had the issue, I learnt a lot over the last two days and posted on my findings.

I got caught with a categorised car before the VIC system was implemented at the time It was a requirement it was engineer inspected (in my case by a firm called Autolign that then classed it as "Condition Inspected"), that's not the case now...if you read the quote you've cut above that's actually what I stated. How are you reading it?

The car I bought was a Cat C.

EDIT:- Ahh I see where you got confused....no I've never had a VIC done (you assumed by "inspected" I meant VIC), the car I bought was before 2003 when the VIC didn't exist..by inspected, I took it to a specialist engineer who did and extensive inspection and test on the car..make sense now?

Up until yesterday I'd never heard of a VIC....didn't even know it existed.

Renaultts no my car is pre command so don't think it is possible to hook up the steering buttons but it looks good. Vlad I think my car has water based paint!

Mudster you just cannot say hey sorry I was wrong and over the top with my posts I did not really know what I was spouting off about ......so there I have done it for you.

Please now go away and stop digging a bigger hole than you are already in...if you are so bored read the stuff again you have posted and see if you truly think it is not personal. As I said get a life and go and annoy someone else with your wisdom of all knowledge.

Actually this is getting mildly amusing now.

So just to wind you up a bit more I have this nagging thought in the back of mind. I'll expand.....Humour me, and take this as another hypothetical question (and lets not state this as fact or anything approaching fact or even advice.

Say there's an accident involving the said car and your insurers work through the paperwork.....

Insurer:- Hello Mr Toehold, we can see that you declared to us the your Car was a Cat B write off, can we have a copy of the VIC for our file please so we can settle the claim.

Mr Toehold:- There wasn't one the car was never registered at a total loss with the DVLA it also happened before 2003 when it wasn't a requirement that the DVLA were notfied.

Insurer:- Ahh I see, in that case can we have a copy of the engineers report that stated it was in a roadworthy condition to be re registered.

Mr Toehold:- There isn't one.

Insurer:- How did the car get re registered after being a total loss then?

You can see where this is going....

Might be irrelevant utter tosh, alternatively it might be the differnece between being insured and not being insured.

Ok now I'm done.

Mudster try this...

"Hello Steve Kev Moore here re this bloody Merc can you once again assure me that it is fully insured and that my insurance company are aware of all the facts as I know them it was a Cat B total write off in 2000 it has been put back on the road it definitely does not have a VIC or has it had a VOSA inspection when it was put back on the road"...Ok Kev I will ring them again but the last time I informed them it was a Cat B they said no problem but 20% less market value if it is a total loss. Few hours later "hi Kev Steve here yes your insured fully comp as I said what is the problem?" nothing just double checking thanks Steve.....

Now that is not a scenario or hypothetical it was a phone conversation between myself and my insurance broker so for f"""s sake you half wit go and amuse yourself somewhere else and leave me alone!!!

Is their no moderators on here that can stop people like this from posting and harrassing innocent people who take offence at people like Mudster who are bored and need a life?

Chill out guys, this is getting proper childish now - why is this being made into a war of words..??

I think this post is truely done and dusted and alot of facts and statements amongst other things have been presented by alot of individuals and with this kind of scenario - 'less is more' would be beneficial now.

Bottom line is a Cat B car was purchased, got checked over, got insured and marker declared and it drives good - I think that's good enough isn't it..??

I personally would never have gone through all that myself as wouldn't know where to start to get it sorted hence didn't purchase it in the first place - for me it's case closed now.

Regards,
Harry

Chill out guys? Tell the prat to stop being such an a hole he has spouted off for 8 pages with all his prior knowledge of all things cat B or whatever then posts an hour ago "Up until yesterday I'd never heard of a VIC....didn't even know it existed." The guy is a moron and somebody with authority on here needs to tell him. I have been abusive as I feel he has abused me he has doubted my word and has publically stated my car should not be on the road and that I am not insured I am going to take legal advice to see what I can do......

"The term defamation of character is often used to describe accusations of slander, libel or both. Slander involves verbal derogatory statements, while libel involves written ones. In a court of law, the plaintiff pursuing the lawsuit would charge defamation of character to cover any form of false or damaging allegations."

This is not an idle threat Munster all is on here as evidence I will send a link to this thread to my solicitor to see if I have any grounds to take action against you. Let's see how amusing you find that so get on the web ring your solicitor and come back to me on here as usual and tell me how wrong I am ok ? In your last post I quote "Actually this is getting mildly amusing now. So just to wind you up a bit more" You want to play silly buggers then so be it I will now do my level best to wind you up and I bet it will at least cost you a few quid and not be one bit amusing.

its a nice e55 you have and good for you for finding such a nice one cheap, personally id love to have it, do me a favour and take some decent pics of it and create a album so i can have a good look, also the wheels look awesome. :thumb:

I can understand as it's not nice when it appears people are ripping your car - don't forget I had a few statements that I didn't feel too happy about either when I bought up the facts about my E55's mileage being clocked and having it for sale that time.

Now now...time Gentlemen. Nice forum, lovely cars, interesting views, good humour, common interest in the 3 pointed star and in this case the same car. Lots of useful information has been passed and gained from this thread. A few feathers have been ruffled unfortunately. Can't be avoided sometimes but it also depends on the members of the forum especially the key players on this thread to diffuse the situation by being a bit more restrained.
Mudster's views have been disseminated and digested by all including Toehold who has a lovely motor he is happy with. Life goes on with other worries like double dip inflation, rising interest rates next year meaning less to spend on my beloved Mercedes...ho hum!
I also have other gripes. I have been quite busy lately and have been off site so I've missed 2 GTGs reasonably close to me in Cumbria and the N.West' Lancs..moan moan!!
So Toehold, at the risk of telling you what to do with your motor (I dare not) how about blowing the cobwebs away with some lovely V8 action. Thats what the E55 is for isn't it?

Lovely BMW Harry. Whose is the Merc ahead of the BM. Is that one of your neighbours trying to say the car in front of the BMW is ..you've guessed it, a Mercedes?

From the License plates looks like it might be from your stables. Thought you no longer had a Mercedes.

Thanks mate, yeah that was my E55 - alas she has gone to her new owner now that was a pic from last week.

New owner absolutely loves the car and to be honest he has no reason not to, all I can say is he got a super car for little money.

It is possible. i've done it on my W208 in the same way.

I put a how-to up on here how to do it. you need a facelift cluster and wheel & airbag & new airbag ring. Then you'll get MPG and speed, audio, nav control via the steering wheel and cluster display.

Yes there is.

But the only person I can see that has stepped over the line in this thread on multiple occasions is you.

If you can't see that then this forum is probably not the right place for you.

Closing thread.
