A little project that myself and Acid at MSL have been working on for the last month, is to swap the stock turbos to M157 turbos found in the 5.5 63 version.
The car arrived as stock, bar a backbox removal and K&N filters- produced 480bhp on the dyno (412whp)

100-200 was 11.6 seconds (downhill slightly)

Comparison of old and new turbos

After, resulted in 670bhp and 980nm (568whp)

As you can see from the power curve, we are having issues top end. We believe this is due to the fuel pumps- so these will be upgraded next

A 100-200 time uphill this time- around 4 seconds quicker!

That’s quite an improvement! It seems that the car might have been a little down on power before you started the work - any idea what caused it?

Thanks, no the car was not down on power before, since Mercedes quote 435bhp stock and mine made 480bhp.

Sorry, I read it as being an M157 engine tuned with aftermarket turbochargers, but rereading it I think you’ve fitted standard M157 turbos on a CL500.

480 is indeed healthy for a standard CL500.

What was the cost of the work?

Over 1,000 miles done since the upgrade.

Proof these cars can be economical if you drive steady:

Floor it and watch the range drop though!
