MY CL500 starting problem

Hi all i purchased my w216 2007 cl500 recently, very low mileage at 44k, with full service history, however 2 weeks ago the car failed to start despite engine turning over constantly, Having this said it always will start in end, just a bit embarrassing ! Car sometimes starts for a 4-5 days, then suddenly won’t, with this fault I’ve had battery’s checked, in keys as well, car put on diagnostics twice, no faults there either, so currently cars in my local Mercedes specialist still trying to hunt fault that’s not showing when plugged in, starter relay has also been changed.


Now,i noticed there was an aftermarket tracker that’s been fitted to the car at somepoint, beside battery in the boot, is it possible that this aftermarket tracker, which has been disabled, is there a possibility interfering with the signals of the immobiliser ? Having being aftermarket it wouldn’t come up on the diagnostic machine ?

Any comments would be very helpfully to get my car back soon as, many thx

Hi it’ll do it whenever and whatever the temprature of the weather or car is

And it’s not the crank position sensor, starter motor, alternator etc, as all been cleared when diognosed

Most things should show a fault diagnosis, I assume they have a proper star diagnostic tool?. My dad had an issue with a after marked security device, that went faulty and shut the fuel pump off every so often. So it's always possible.

As always with intermittent issues , it hard to track them down unless you catch them in the act.

Hi, yeah I’m hoping to collect car tomorrow without tracker fitted and go from there, fingers crossed, if not then get immobiliser reset, also yes it was a proper star machine done in two separate garages ,and I assume where car is now also have one.

How was it diagnosed, CPS doesn’t come up with any error code.

When I mentioned it to garage where car is now there adamant it’s not the cps , wish it was though so frustrating, any more clues, ears are open !

Another thing, cars been in garage from mon and on Thursday was told to colllect it with no charge because they can’t find fault having started everytime, and when they went to pull car out for me it wouldn’t start ! So it’s massive gaps and so random it’s unbelievable !

Garage has found problem at long last if anyone else has similar problems in the future,after picking my car up with new crank sensor fitted I got home then I was shocked it wouldn’t start again, so taking it back earlier it turns out it’s the sam sensor behind rear seat, that controls fuse box, now just waiting for warranty to pay out ! Finally getting to the bottom it, and get my CL back on the road !,

I have a 2007 CL500. I got a trouble like yours, about 6-7 months ago. when I start the car, engine tried to run but it failed. I usually had this problem when the engine is hot. Then, the authorized technical service changed the crank position censor and problem solved.

But, nowadays I am having this problem again in different way. Sometimes(engine is hot or cold) , I push the start button, then nothing happens in the engine but only lamps, dashboard, command etc. run. so simple, nothing happens about engine. I am now looking around this problem, and will try your solution, then ill write.

What is sam sensor? Do you know what its purpose is?
