Hello, my drivers side front door needs a good force to shut it, otherwise it tends to not close properly.... i think its because it may have dropped but not sure how..... Any ideas
well since its needed that extra pull i would say there is a little more wind noise from the back of my window
It might be worth adjusting the window a little and see if that helps.
If you look at the door hinges you'll see if they've moved, which I doubt.
Will do.... pretty solid heavy doors and it use to close lovely, recently its began to need that extra force.... will have a look at the window later. cheers.
Just realised i only have front doors
No wonder you've been finding it difficult to get in the back..[/quote
well i did begin to wander... its just the normal thing to say "front door"...
From the outside slowly push the door closed whilst holding the handle out to release the latch.
The door should close perfectly aligned. If it needs to rise as it hits the striker plate then it's dropped and needs sorting.
If it is low either the hinge pin has worn or the hinge needs adjusting. to check the hinge pin nearly close the door then try to lift it at the trailing edge. If it lifts the hinge is worn, if not it just needs adjusting.
Right had a play........ the door does not close easily at all.... its almost as if it does not want to close, like the closed position is an inch before closing. Could the hinge be stretched if the door has opened too far.
The hinges are don't really give any trouble.
Possible the striker has moved, how did the glass look, even all the way around?
It seems ok when its closed.... the door feels like someone is pushing it open at the final point of closure, hinges and latch look solid and not moved.
Is the rubber seal ok?
So the door aligns the aperture ok, just feels like it's pushing out.? Pull the rubber seal off and try again. If it still does it it must be the hinge or checkstrap.
You mentioned if the door had been stressed, has it.?
it could have bent the lead edge, but unlikely.
Will have a go at that tomorrow now... bit dark here in Wales. I have let the door swing open before so that may have stressed it. If it is the checkstrap can that be replaced.
am i thick or just put the window down and tryIt might be worth adjusting the window a little and see if that helps.
If you look at the door hinges you'll see if they've moved, which I doubt.
