My E220 Goes Klunk - Sorted

Any E220 experienced this ?
A klunk sound has started from the rear.
Happens only after starting up and driving off and lasts for about 300 yards then disappears until the next time I start up and drive off.
My guess is rear shocks as the klunk happens going over bumps and holes - but how come it stops?
Have driven hard round corners to try and make it happen but I can't
Any ideas - exhaust knocking ? drive shaft coupling ? I got warranty

:(

I'm not sure if the E has the same set-up but on the C there is a rubber doughnut on the end of the propshaft that wears and does just this sort of problem....Next on my list would be shockers!!!!
Cant think of anything else.... HTH

Hi Pinball - and welcome to the only MB show in town!

I have a year old C220 CDI estate that has developed the same problem over the last week so I sat up when I read your post. My guess is that an exhaust mounting has loosened and as the exhaust warms up (and expands) the knock deadens a bit. Im no mechanic and hope some of the techie wizards in here can shed some light on this for us. My car is due an "A" service shortly and Ill let my dealer (the superb Agnews of Belfast) have a look see!
