I'm a complete newcomer to Mercedes-Benz, so when the seven-year old battery on my recently-acquired 1998 SLK 230 showed signs of stress in the current cold snap, I decided to replace it and contacted Mercedes-Benz Norwich. I was quoted £103 for the battery and an additional £75 (!) to fit it - a total of £178. I questioned the justification for the fitting charge and was told that it was non-negotiable. End of conversation.
So I visited my local independent MB specialist who fitted the battery there and then, gave me a cup of coffee as I anxiously watched the snow getting heavier and heavier, and charged me £88 for a genuine 74Ah Mercedes battery. There was no fitting charge. The service was prompt and courteous; it couldn't have been better and I saved £90 into the bargain. The conclusion is self-apparent -. Lesson number one learned!
