Lots of Mercedes!
Well got in the car on sunday after 6 months winter hibernation and heard a farting sound when booting it... i replaced the complete exhaust 4 years ago so not that...

open the bonnet and hear the noise loud and clear.. could see it was the EGR valve but at first didnt notice it was cracked... further examination and much testing of my new tools revealed:

So options are:

-Get second hand but everywhere i have rang doesnt have one as its a very common issue
- Get new - £500 plus vat
- Weld closed the inside of the manifold as EGR is a waste of time anyway?

What do people think?

i may be talking a load of $$£% but i wonder if that could be repaired by someone if dismantled?

if welding closed the EGR is an option i'd look into the possibilities of that. i blocked it off on my W124 with no ill effects

saying that, your R107 is a very nice late example so worth quite a bit - is it worth the £500+ to have it original/OEM?

hi mate, sorry to hear about the crack in the manifold.

I think welding will not do the trick as I believe the material is cast iron.

£500 is too expensive for a new one.

Best bet is to get a second hand one.

There is one guy on ebay who is breaking lots of SL 107 and I heard he is good with prices.

yeah i've had a lot of stuff from him for my SL restoration. very good.

the other link i posted (ebay seller alfredsiegl99)got me through to quite a rude chap. unfortunatly it looks like i may have to use him for some stuff as he does have it but i cant find it anywhere else. its also quite expensive for what is 2nd hand parts in need of work, but still a lot cheaper than buying new....

I dealt with Alfred Siegl once, quick efficient and cheap, could not have been more helpful at the time, so no problems here!

Did they sell more SLs in the US? If so, look on American eBay for the part.

I needed a part for my Disco (an electric seat switch) which was a rare option in The UK, but common in The US. UK eBay sellers wanted a fortune for the part, US eBay sellers wanted peanuts!.

maybe i took his mails the wrong way then.......... it looks like i may have to buy from him anyway for some bits as he is the only person with the stuff i need....

With a name like Siegl the chances are that he is not of UK Origin...in fact he is not!
But he knows his stuff and is not expensive, I got the Radiator and oil cooler for my SL from him, almost brand new!

Im waiting for an email from Alfed as no phone number that i can see... If not its going to be welded..

As much as the R107 is my pride and joy, £500 is too much for a bit of hollow tube. Im sure I could get a stainless one made at half the cost...

spoke to alf who put me onto "smithy" who is the other ebay link mentioned above.. no one has one!

The issue is the manifold is specific to the UK 500SL, parts are slim... I have lots of W126sitting here, but they are all different..

Spoke to Mark Cosovich (W123 guru) as he used to keep R107 parts.. He said he had one but last year he had a clear out and got rid of all his R107 parts as no one wanted them!
