My friend Dave needs some car tax advice

Driving an untaxed car means exposure to fine of between £40 to £200 (if impounded).

As far as I am aware it is not a criminal offence, nor does it incur points on your driving license, and it has no bearing on insurance status (in fact Dave must insure the car BEFORE taxing it).

If Dave is concerned regarding the financial implications as per above, I am happy to provide insurance for a 24 hours period to reduce Dave's exposure.

For a Tenner, I will reimburse Dave for any fine he may reasonably incur on the day in relation to his car being untaxed.

All major credit cards accepted.

My two P on this. Technically the day of the exchange the seller still needs to have a valid road tax unless removed from road i.e SORN. So if you are driving within the same day technically you are covered. I am not aware of the form saying what time you transferred it..
Personally I would not have a problem with that especially if computer says NO ..

Dave managed to get the vehicle taxed this morning online, so there is clearly a time delay built into the system.

Meanwhile Druk will be pleased to know that muggins here who did the collection almost missed his train from Kings X because of a cancelled suburban train, the next scheduled one arriving 10 minutes late and a Circle Line train sitting at Edgware Road station for another 10 minutes. I have never ever had to run from the tube to platform and make the train as the doors were about to be shut. Then the A1 was shut on the way home, car didn't break down though!
