At least i think thats what it is. Its a small looking motor sitting above what looks like 2 fuel lines on the driverside near the top mount. Anyway thats what it is and its running all the time when the ignition is on! I think i'm right in thinking it shouldn't so whats gone wrong? (its a W124 E200  by the way).

Cheers boys! (or girls if there is any on here). :bannana:

If the fuel pump didn't run all the time the engine was running, how would the engine get fuel?

I think eddie means when the ignition is on, click 2 , not just when the engine is actually running ....... :)

yeah thats what i meant. I really should just go and play with some relay's if n see i can find any and see what happpens. From inside it sounds like the fan is running but i can still hear this very faint motor like noise when i turn the fan off. they probably all do it. rock on

Eddie, your fuel pump is situated under the rear left hand side of the car just in front of the rear wheel. Its covered with a plastic dirt shield. I think what you are looking at is the dual heater solenoids which click when the ignition is on, well mine do anyway hahaha.

Do the 124s have a heater pump, like the 210.
If so the pump will run all the time to pump hot water to the heater.

Alas no they dont, there are two solenoids that control the left and right hand heating stystem within the car. One of mine clicks when it is on half heat. I was just wondering if this was a little more pronounced in Eddies car.

do you know what - i think it is somthin to with the heating now. The pipes going into are quite big- too big for fuel now i think about it. i think i must have heater pump.

yes, it does and yes, it runs all the time with the ignition on.

The pump is also required if your car has the engine off heating called "rest".
