Lots of Mercedes!
I sold my short wheel base crazy 560 engined G wagen last year and have been looking for a LWB 500 since... They have simply been too expensive and then one came up... Not my first choice of colour but everything else was perfect.

My Old one:

Some Interior Upgrades and a light paint refresh to follow...

Wow, that looks great. I think G's are extremely cool....but what are they actually like to drive?

Also, any pictures of the interior?

Well the early ones pre 1991 are like tractors... the later models are just like cars to drive...

To me this feels like driving a large version of an ML500... Although a lot cooler...

Interior pics to follow...

Great thing is about these G's is the changes in looks are very subtle all the way from the first ones to the very latest...

So all it takes is the latest wheels, grille and other bits and your car looks totally up to date..

Going to fit a 2012 grill?

Will look more at cosmetic upgrades when it goes to bodyshop..

Decided Deffo not doing led lamps, think they look naff

Looks really nice Jay - I love the subtle colour.
It's a sledgehammer of a car in a tailored suit... a million miles cooler - far, far cooler than the blinged up tinsel chariots you see around.

Much prefer the wheels on your old 560.

very cool car! learned to 'drive' in a g-wagen in my grandad's field!! hope to own one someday. i quite like the colour and the wheels are immense!

Much prefer the wheels on your old 560.

Yes I had actually found a set of those but whereas my old one was on lower springs, this one is on off road springs and the 18" wheels would have looked too small..

I like the ride and look of the 20's

Very nice indeed.

Where do you find these gems?

This one came up on auto trader believe it or not.. Apparently it had been for sale on and off for a while but I never saw it before.

A job i carry out to all of my cars on a regular basis.

First time is always pretty long winded as need to first thoroughtly clean underside.

I normally use soap and a jet wash and clean as much as possible whilst car is still on ground.

Then ill leave to dry and then ill remove all the covers, i.e. wheel arch liners, sill protectors etc... Also remove as many grommets as I can find. Clean all the exposed areas with wire brush and also a rotating drill attachment to remove all flaky rust.

On this car it took me hours to remove all the mud and general crud from all of the underside... to be expected of a 4x4 though.

Then its the time to get dirty... I use compressed air with a Sealey Gun... I have a flexible lance for all the hollow sections.

Now I dont want to start a debate on the best product to use... Many use Bilt & Hamber, some like Dinitrol... Ive tried them all and always come back to good old Waxoyl.

To be fair, You should use different products for different areas of the car... Some set solid for exposed areas whereas others remain viscous to flow into the crevices of hollow sections. Thats if you want to do the job once only... I prefer to do this once every 3-4 years depending on how heavily the car is used and so I have found Waxoyl is the single best all round product.

I warm the wax in a bucket of boiling water for 10-15 mins to make it nice and thin... Some mix it with thinners but I dont like to do that.

I went through 9L for this job.

I cover the whole car in plastic bodyshop sheeting. I normally remove the wheels too but in this case it was easier to simply wrap them in plastic as there is great access just by jacking the car up to do the wheel arches.

I have access to ramps here at work which makes this job a LOT easier.

I was not looking very pretty after this lot.

Top work that will help guarantee its future.

My dad used to have a g wagon in the early / mid 80s , horrible blue colour and I remember him doing what you have done with the undercarriage , fininigans waxoily I think he used , car was like a tank !!!! Go anywhere but didn't look very aerodynamic and wasn't as good looking as the letter ones like yours ,, and the interior was urggggghhhhhh , a yellow & brown check if I remember right and the dash was like from the 70s sl lol

They arent aerodynamic at all... Which is why I have only managed around 13 mpg so far!

The later ones are a lot nicer to drive.. just like driving a normal car... I guess just the same as how Defenders changed through the years.

Lovely colours!
