I feel R2D2's may be contagious and potentially very damaging to my pocket :D

So having been browsing around I am going to view a 1972 Jenson Interceptor with the 7.2Litre V8  Chrysler engine.

Feel like going for something old school for the weekends. Dirt cheap to insure too. Quoted £165 a year :bannana:

I have no idea as yet if the C43 will be staying or going. It all depends although I have a feeling 2 V8's may be a little harsh on the pocket so a W202 diesel estate may be on the horizon.

Anyone on here owned or had experience of a Jensen?

Something such as this

They sound great and were good in their day but you will be bored by the performance and the fuel bills, not to say the reliability.

Stick with the C43 or get a potent diesel.

hubba hubba

go scratch that itch, you KNOW you want to!!!

My dad crashed one of these at high speed in Harrow when they were first out, apparently when you accelerate hard in it, the 'suck' on the carbs is so great that it can cause the butterflys to jam open....its a known fault and one to be aware of.

Dad managed to vitually chop the car in half hitting an oak post head on that was supporting a pub sign on belmont roundabout......

Sounds nice but i suspect that the performance will not be up to the AMG and will prove expensive on the pocket very very quickly....

Keep the C43

Keep the C43

Its a double edged thing though. If correctly maintained it will not loose money and will more than likely go up.

However regardless how the C43 is maintained it will always go down. Just depends how well its maintained that will limit how hard it falls. That in itself costs.

It may just be a case of want it, get it, drive it, sell it.

Not looking to get one to go fast just love the noise.

Dont forget, the older the car the more things go wrong with it :)

Stick with the C43

That was the earlier engine. 7.2 Came latest int the MKIII

Besides 7.2 and V8 :D Speaks for itself.

I love them. Considered one myself ready for when my daughter was born - four seats being more practical than the two seats I had at the time!! Not sure how else I reasonsed a 7.2 V8 classic was practical but I managed it!!

I had a burning desire to satisfy my schoolboy wish to own a Corvette Stingray. I bought a 1970 5.7 V8 "little Red Corvette" in 1990 and had it for ten years. It was difficult to drive, expensive to keep on the road, but a heck of a lot of fun. I am really glad that I did it, even though I only put about 2k miles on it each year. I sold it in 2000 for the deposit on my flat, otherwise I'd still have it now.

Go scratch that itch, you're a long time dead!

Do you think the Jensen Interceptor always appreciated in value? It did not! Only when it became a classic did it's value begin to rise. This is true for any beautiful, unique or interesting car (quoting from TG there).

I reckon the C43 estate is a future classic, it may well begin appreciating within the next 10 years if well maintained.

If i were you i would rush out and buy some cream to rub on that itch

Jensons look great but are really dated ive owned 1969 mk1 and a 1974 car, they over heat and catch fire, they rust, the gear boxes play up as well as the all the parts are really expensive

but they do sound and look good and you should pick up a great car for £10000 but buy the mk3 not the early car

thats a mk1 in the pic look for vents in bonnet for later cars that helped with the overheating problems

If I get one it would be a MKIII. But registered prior to Jan 73 as on principle I do not want to pay road tax.

Maybe just a test drive will cure the itch.

However the more I think about it the more it makes sense to do it now rather than later.

bodywork big problems

I expect you have seen this
http://www.channel4.com/4car/buying...29/classiccarbuy-jenseninterceptor-229_t.html Bodywork supposed to be a nightmare as I recall! Not really advisable. May need leaded petrol also :( At least with a classic Merc you can still get the bits. :) I drove an old daimler 250 v8 ( the one based on the Jaguar mk2 saloon) a couple of years back and I was frankly appalled how bad it was. You tend to forget the 30 odd years of car design development thats gone on till you get in a car of that age. A test drive will convince you. ;)

Not for a while, Shaun. Ragtops and Six-Packs will always find a home, but the fastback appeals to only a limited market.

Maintenance and, in particular rebuild costs are extremely expensive. It simply isn't a practical daily driver. 7.2Litre will average you between 9 and 14mpg. FF system is fairly bulletproof, but you'll be selling your body to pay to fix it.

Rust gets everywhere, and if you don't have a dehumidified garage, then unless it's been waxoyled, it'll start to deteriorate fast.

Electrics are unreliable. Cooling (unless sorted) is marginal. Aircon is very useful, but doesn't help fuel bills.

Wait till the spring. Buy one. Hoon about for a couple of months, and then sell it quick.

Interceptor

Ahhh , a gentlemans mount:

join the owners club, you can get an "injection" system (Holley I think) which will certainly take the edge off the fuel consumption.
