My god, don't touch a French car. Go for a Ford Galaxy or a VW Touran. Much more reliable.

Not my experience. Avoid early Galaxies/Sharans. I had a Sharan and vowed never to drive another VW. The dealers were carp, but the car was worse - countless faults.

I got rid of it and we have had Citroen MPVs (Synergie and now C8) ever since as the family bus. Not faultless, but no worse than the Mercs I drive. Our C8 is now 7years old (although I think I might have written it off when I hit the central barrier last week at 75mph ... but that's another story!)

Our Espace was also quite well behaved. It's the dealers who let it down. If Renault could get their customer experience sorted I would be back.

Early examples of most cars are best avoided IMHO. I had a 2002 Sharan for 5 years (a complex one - V6, 4WD, and all the toys) and the only thing it needed apart from servicing and tyres was a new battery.
