I guess the issue for me comes down to two things.

One.
For Unique/Rare/One-off also read "unpopular"... Mercedes and other spend millions on marketing research... if it was wanted we would have it.
They make greys/slivers for a reason - its what people buy.

Two.
Audi I know offer an exclusive range of about 20-30 colours on all their cars. I asked how many people spec these colours - approximately "nobody" was the answer I got. They stick with safe silvers/greys.

Don't doubt you think its a nice colour - unfortunately you are in the absolute minority - espeecially when it comes to ordering the car and paying.

Two point Five.

Aston customers probably have more money than sense - wear red trousers and are called Jeremy etc.

p.s. Yes, it is a nice colour.

I like almandine and I like that too. The Vanquish is stunning in that hue (or pretty much any other for that matter.)

Jaguar has (had?) a similar colour called caviar, an XK looked terrific in it.

Heaven preserve us from lease car drones with grey/silver/black. I almost didn't go Mercedes because the colour choice was so dismal. Don't tell me that hyacinth red doesn't look good, it's a pity that the delivery time on it was going to be sometime never.

As for Audi, no-one goes for the fancy colours because they are £2.5k a pop and people would rather have fancy wheels or lane departure warning or some other over-priced accessory to burn up their allowance. But I had an A6 demonstrator in a terrific electric blue and if it had been for sale (and if it had folding mirrors) I would have bought it there and then. It actually looked like a car worth £40k+. Maybe I'm still just a kid inside.

p.s. your average Aston owner wears sensible trousers, Grecian 2000 and those trousers with an elasticated waist.

Which is exactly the colour of WOODYTHEWISE's XF 5 Litre Portfolio which the Scottish contingent drooled over at yesterday's Moffat GTG.

Absolutely superb inside and out and no rattly deisel in sight or smell.

:)

For me it comes under the heading of maroon, which is a colour I have disliked since my Mother insisted I had to eat beetroot when I was a toddler.
I have such a dislike of the colour if I was given a Aston in this colour I would return it as I would not want to be seen dead in it.

There's a reason they are "unpopular" and it's not what you're thinking.

When we ordered our E class this year we wanted a Designo colour that we knew was available on the W212 - Designo Mauritius Blue. So we put in the request.

It took two weeks to get the price back from Mercedes, £5000 + 3 months extra on the lead time on the car.

So why wasn't this a £1200 option? For the following reason. If you order a "Designo Colour" on your UK RHD drive car, the car is built and painted white in the usual factory.

It's then taken from the factory where it's built to the AMG factory where it's completely dismantled, resprayed in your choice of colour and rebuilt. Hence, £5000 and an extra 3 months.

It's no surprise there aren't many other cars on the road other than the vast range of monochrome colours on offer. If the options were there, people would pick them. People aren't going to pick them for £5K and another 3 months wait.

Mercedes Hyacinth Red looks good on my W212 E-Class

We went to look at one of those as we were going to order it, we just didn't like it.

However I've seen two or three more since and the colour seems to look different on each car for some reason.

They would if they wanted it that bad!

I think they go to Rastatt for painting... its where I worked. They are shipped as "body-in-white" which means bare metal bodyshell. Then shipped back to Sindelfingen for assembly on the normal line.
Still would be about £5000 because of the admin/logistics.

My next door neighbours lexus SC is in a colour very similar to the Aston in the picture. it looks Black on dull light, but comes alive in bright sun.

Porsche also offered a very similar colour on the 997 .. I think it was called amethyst metallic

Porsche offered a brown on the 997 that, to me, really didn't work..

I like this and think it would be quite a saleable colour.

Colours are a bit of a nightmare. But remember around 7 or 8 years ago when everything was silver!!

Check AM's website.. still very sliver/grey

One should perhaps be wary of assessing the impact of certain colours when seen on high end cars like Aston Martin, Jaguar and Porsche where a svelte sexy car body can carry off any colour. Something that looks good on a Vantage may not look quite so attractive on a Ford Fiesta or VW Golf. :dk:
