Hi Guys

I purchased a nice 2000 ML320 this weekend as a family runaround. its done 74K, got history and apart from a few cosmetic niggles is in really nice condition. BUT....

Took the car for a run today and turned on the AC. The light comes on but the air is not cool. The air get slightly cooler when the car is being driven but all in all its just not working. I am not noticing any clicking noises so I am wondering if a Re-Gas would sort this out. I hope and pray its not the air blend motor as I dont want to shell out to get this fixed just now.

Any ideas?

(Howdid I miss this when I test drove the car I keep asking myself :dk: )

In my experience you always miss something when buying a car - does not matter how many times you have been there before. If you bought it privately then still worth calling the seller - not to have a go but to see if they have had any repairs or investigation carried out - if you make it clear that you are not seeking any compensation it will probably get you an honest answer and that may help you.
The other choice is take it to Kwik Fit for a £45 test and re-gas. If it works great if not at least it is only £45.

As you say on wifes old ml 98 model light off was air con on same as our current cars, think i read somewhere the newer cars are the other way around.

Really???

Can I have been that dim (dont answer that!)

Seriously though if the ac button is pushed a small amber light comes on, which I thought was AC ON! I am sure that it workes that way on my W220 but there you go.

I'll go and try it and also might err... read the manual :wallbash:

Light on mine and wifes car is red so maybe ml different? and light in the ec switch is light on ec = eceonmy mode on ie air con off.

Just thought mine is climate and wifes is a sort of semi climate so if yours just a/con with knobs possibly thats the reason for difference.

Russian site lists up to 09 2000 and 09 2000 onwards was that facelift time?

I was apparently thick too... I wondered why there's cool air coming out, when the AC was off (red light off), but this explains it...

Thanks!

The light shows that the function named on the button is active.

So if the button says "AC Off" (as on our Vito) or "Ec" (Economy - as on our SL), the light means the aircon is off.

M-B did go through a phase where the button was marked (I think) "AC", in which case the light means the aircon is on.

My 2008 W209 has an AC button which lights up red to have the AC on. It is the same in my partners 2009 R171.

Still confused guys, the button on mine only seems to have one option. The manual is very unclear on this so I am now not sure whether its working correctly.

Mine looks like this.....

All fixed now, it needed a regas.

If anybody needs a good mobile aircon specialist in the Surrey area PM me. The guy I used was excellent and very reasonable!

Hey PJ dont forget the solved button:)
