My new SLS

If you put you VIN through one of the decoders it should show the date of manufacture/shipping from factory on the datacard IIRC.

Apologies for my ignorance but these decoders....how do I do this (is it something do-able online?)

... Have you looked outside recently??

Lol :D

Oh quit the excuses and sort it out chap :thumb:

To be honest, even I (who 'properly' uses his car ;)) parked it up in the garage on Friday night and left it in there - my road has a slight incline (with my house being about 20 meters from the bottom) and it took me over half an hour to get my car up the incline and into the drive on Friday.

We picked up the E on Saturday and it looked clean and brand new for the amount of time it took to do the (indoors) handover....it now looks like it's old and has never been washed! Being white (the Diamond version too....not that you can tell!) obviously helps this massively

There's a couple of freebie ones online (mostly translated from foreign sites, eg Russian), but the best way is to use the official MB EPC/datacard system. You get access FOC with membership to the 'Official' MB club UK, I'm a member and have a log in somewhere..but if someone else can find theirs first then that would be the foolproof system.

You could try one of the other FOC ones first - nothing to lose (be aware that they're not always 100% accurate WRT to option codes/spec etc)

Datacard link should appear in the top RHS once you put in VIN details.

Thanks....and that did cross my mind. Until I got the E Class this weekend and saw that certificate said 04-2012....and obviously, the E-Coupe has been around in it's current form for a lot longer than that! Maybe that date updates on a key facelift or major mechanical change? (not sure what major changes happened last year on the E-Coupe though?)
Wasn't it about then that the E-Coupe 350CDI changed from the 232hp to 265hp engine? The emissions changed significantly at that point so I suspect it would be re-certified.

It'll be time to sell it soon and since it now seems to be more of a knackered Taxi than a cherished executive car... ;)

The emissions really are VERY good - it's only £170 to tax which is amazing for relatively powerful a 3 litre engine.

Give me a chance.....I need to get the inside dirty before it goes in the classified :D (it's actually a very nice car....it'll get it's own thread at some point this week!)

I know what you mean.

I live on a private road that is not maintained by the council, so no gritting etc.
The road is also on a hill. Not much of a hill but enough to make it pretty concerning when covered in snow

My drive is also sloped. When I had my old CLK, I couldn't get it up the drive and had to leave it on part of my front garden. Bloody thing looked liked it had been dumped! Lol

As for your E Class.. Yes, I feel your pain.

Snow really does highlight how much crap there is on the roads. It's truly black at the roadsides.

Needless to say, I will be waiting a while longer before sorting out a meet or venturing out in the 63

Andy, I think you should look at my lake district LOMP thread?

Be good for either car to get a nice day out in the country and it's a scenic part of the world and a good crowd are going.

As I'm away skiing at the moment, I've fallen behind with postings on the forum. Very nice write up and thanks for the photos. I'm very curious about the customised interior of your C63. Don't suppose you can give me more details on what exactly was done and how much it cost? Alternatively is there somewhere on the web I can find a menu of options and prices for work done at Affalterbach?

Wow ! What a gorgeous car . Great colour scheme, If i can get a 200 year mortgage i will order one. Hope you get a great deal of enjoyment from it , and do not find it too taxing on your OCD,

Mate....you'd be suicidal if my 2-day old E was yours!! It looks a proper state - I couldn't even bring myself to take a picture of it and introduce it's arrival on here!

Done and done....I think I'll be coming along to that and will book a room tomorrow. Looks a nice little hotel, food looks good and I like driving the lakes - particularly like going to that slate mine you mention if it's the one I'm thinking of (Honister Pass??)

I'm sure I compiled a proper write up on here about it from about May / June 2010 but can't seem to find it anywhere :dk:

Anyway, it was one of the best upgrades I've ever done to a car - the quality was astounding.

Basically, I always thought the Designo option in the pre-facelift C63 a bit of a half-hearted effort - with just the upper dash and top of the doors done in leather), it sat rather uncomfortably against very average plastics. I'm sure this looks better in later models which have a less grainy style of plastic.

Whilst I was waiting for my C63 to be built, I booked a tour of the AMG factory in Affalterbach in my then-current C63 (I had two in a row). What I didn't expect when I got to Affalterbach was (in addition to the engine facility that they gave me a tour of) the customisation facilities in what they call the 'AMG Performance Studio'. The sheer quality and attention to detail that I saw was impressive and, having recently had a tour of the Bentley factory, I can say AMG's facility is a match for them!

I enquired about how to get the full leather treatment on my C63 before it was delivered but apparently I'd left it too late to intercept the build. I ended up getting a quote for having all the lower sections of the dash, centre console and front doors done in leather, to be done after the car was built (meaning it had to be stripped and re-built again, something that did concern me somewhat given my vehement dislike of rattles!). If I remember correctly, they came back with a price of £3.3k and it would take 3 weeks to complete the job.

I actually thought that to be good value considering the work involved so, about a month after picking my C63 up from the factory, I drove it back there and left it with them for 3 weeks. They took me to, and picked me up from, Stuttgart airport. I also had AMG door pins and a special gearlever emblem fitted (both came to about £250 extra).

I needn't have worried as the end result was a very special C63, one that was genuinely different to almost every other one and the quality of material and how everything was put back together was faultless. It's still one of my favourite cars and, despite having had some nice (and much more expensive) cars since, my other half still thinks my C63 was the best of the lot (current SLS excepted...she likes that a lot!)

Below are all the pics I have of the interior and if you want a contact there, I've PM'd you the name and email address of the guy I dealt with. I have no idea if he's still there but am planning on contacting him soon myself to arrange another visit over there in my SLS - I love going to that facility because it's an impressive place and, as an AMG owner, they love showing you round!

I don't think theres a pricelist of options that the Performance Studio offer per se as it's all very bespoke - they will pretty do anything and price it individually but they do (or at least did) seem reasonable from a cost point of view.

Hope you get a great deal of enjoyment from it , and do not find it too taxing on your OCD,

I hope not too....once my creaky seat and faulty sub are replaced, I'm hoping it'll be as 'silent' as I want it to be!

Congrats Andy, absolutely amazing car!

Absolutely loving the C63 AMG Performance Studio Picture pictures, best pre-facelift C63 interior that I've seen!

Andrew, great to see you back posting but even better now that your back in a brace of Mercedes.

Both very nice cars, I've just taken delivery of a second Mercedes in white and agree with your comments on not posting pictures due to the mess it looks in this weather. ;)

Ho, hum!!

Quick update - my car went into Mercedes of Loughborough two days ago for them to properly diagniose the seat creaking.

Now, despite having just purchased our new E class from them (mainly beause it's conveniently right opposite where I work and they did a great deal), my history with this dealership is chequered to say the least.

However, they have done themselves proud this week :D

Firstly, they've been very helpful and dare I say even enthusiastic at helping me with the SLS's niggly problems, despite me not buying it from them. They recommended I left the car with them for 3 days to ensure they could diagnose the problems properly but I still fully expected them to return the car to me unfixed whilst they waited for whatever parts to arrive. But this is not how it was....

Within the 3 days they managed to correctly diagnose the seat problem, ordered the new seat backrest (that couldn't have been cheap for the warranty dept given it's made of magnesium), had the part delivered and fitted AND they fixed most of the rattling rear shelf! (OK, being über fussy, a small vibration remains but I'll let MB Milton Keynes have a go when they replace my faulty subwoofer next week).

So on the whole, I'm delighted with them and the improvements to my car. No more creaky seat and most of the rattles gone :D
