Hey guys,

Here's my new (to me obviously!) 2011 W221 S350. I've been at a loss to know what to buy after selling my long time owned 2000 R129 "SL Edition" and my C5 Corvette in 2021.

I'm in Edinburgh and our roads are truly truly atrocious at the moment so I was put off buying a sports car. I fancied an R231 SL but wasn't inspired by the 400 and the 500's and SL63 are expensive with currently high used car prices.

This came up and sounded a good car. 1 owner with 8 MB services to 2020 and only 40,000 miles. Last owner did about 26,000 miles to the current 57,000 I think it has now. Last owner seemed to care for it well and were selling due to a move to a very rural location. Spec appealed to me bar not being an AMG body kit model.

It is Magnetite Black, has DAB radio, Distronic, HK sound system upgrade (which is ok but not fantastic!), sunroof, wood wheel etc. I've been machine polishing it but I have to say that in certain light the Magnetite looks a bit flat. I have a set of brand new 20" Brabus Monoblock V split rims that I've had for years that I was hoping might fit but the front is maybe not going to at 9.5J with et37. I might try one with a 245 rather than 255 and see how it goes.

If I can overcome my fear of "malfunctions" and Airmatic woes it is a lovely car to drive and the diesel in it is impressive. I've had other big cars before like E38 740i/750iL and E65 745i etc. Never had an S class. I considered a W222 but the 221 seems a bit less limo like/a bit smaller. Excellent choice and a great car. Distronic Plus is amazing. Enjoy!

Very Nice W221, I my Opinion (Biased) the best S Class after the W140.
I have only used distronic plus once, but it totally freaked out my wife.

In addition, look after it and i should imagine all will be fine, there are loads of horror stories of airmatic etc, you never hear the vast majority that work well for the life of the car. just service it regularly with a good indy, and all the issues can be caught in the bud.
Once you have had an S Class, theres no going back

Well you’re right it’s a superb car. But through lack of use I just put it up for sale last week. I live in central Edinburgh and have a work/smoker (Mk1 Fabia TDI estate) that I jump in for work purposes and local running. I’m just not using the S enough.

I recently bought a project 1994 R129 500SL. The big S squeezes into my garage with the SL but it’s tight.
Hence I think selling the S is probably the right decision.

Wholeheartedly agree they’re an amazing vehicle on the comfort and refinement front.
