My old E55 is for sale again....

"5 doors and rear wiper"!

Special mod?? :)

Never mind the fact that they also write "folding rear seats" which this car did not have (had everything else though).

The price seems a bit excessive to say the least

No thanks.... that car was something of the worst ever. Everything broke but one thing that was good was the 476bhp from a very nice sounding V8!

Really surprised to hear that. Only problem I have had with mine is the faulty sensor on the keyless go which was replaced under warranty.
I have had mine about 9 months now..........and put on about 1500 miles.

Yes cant beat the motor

I had to change the discs & pads (not so expensive), a cracked tyre, sat nav antenna, electric pump for the dynamic seats (£1000!!), Audio gateway + a whole load of other things. Spent over £5K in repairs!

The dealer also lied by showing me a clean HPI..... later this put me into trouble with outstanding finance..... cost me an arm and a leg!

9 months 1500 miles?

Interesting to hear your comments NewMB, the guy who has it now hasn't transferred the logbook into his own name yet and he admitted that he'd had it 6 months, he said the previous owner of the car was a "customer" of his....are you? lol He also said it was very highly specced (which it does seem to be) and is in immaculate condition. I told him I thought it was overpriced as it has also had 5 owners not including him....he said the price was negotiable and sounded like he needs the money.

Would you advise steering clear?

Your woes with the car appear to be none to concerning from a mechanical point of view, tyres, discs, pads are the norm, the motor on the seats admittedly is annoying and so is the outstanding finance, so I can see why you were happy to see the back of it. I assume he bought it for a lot less than he is advertising it for?

This will be a long story.....

I bought the car 06/09/2008 from Mayfair Motors in Milton Keynes (they later went bust and are now trading under a new name!!). MB Colchester then got the car the following days for fixing smaller things:

Service
Poly V belt
Brake fluid
Air filter
Combination filter
Auto transmission fluid
Oil & Filter
New door mirror (was cracked)
Sunrood (new alignment as wasn't opening)
Front & Rear discs & pads
Some bolts on the exhaust system
New AMG mats
Tire Fit kit
Wipers

More work at a later date...

New front tyre (to replace cracked one - by ATS Euromaster)
Air Pump
Tool Kit
Audio Gateway
Navtrak disconnected (drained the battery in 2 days on 2 occasions)
Starter Motor
Misfire....new HT Leads
Pneumatic Pump (for the Dynamic Seats)
Sat Nav antenna

Only had 1 key, bought a 2nd one.

That would end any problems.

As for the dealer and outstanding finance, I have tried everything from expensive lawyers to the Financial Ombudsman Service and Trading Standards to no avail. Been really f*****d over!

As for the car, it is very highly specced with:
Obsidian Black
Sat Nav (new disc)
iPod connection in glove box (MB Colchester installed this)
Sunroof
Dynamic Seats
Climate Seats (hot and cold air)
CD Changer
Tinted windows in the back (not by me)
Harman/Kardon
Parktronic
TPM (tyre monitor - shows as faulty but worked!)

I also had the car fully detailed last year by my usual guy (does all my cars) costing another £650. But it did make it look better than the day the car was born.

60000 miles or so on the clock when I sold it. I had it for about 6 months and put only 2000 miles on.

I had 4 previous owners, I would be the 5th.

The guy who bought it from me came all the way down from Newcastle. Looked like a builder, not a car trader. I did say he would keep it for at least over the summer and then sell it.

I sold it for £15.5K (asked for £18K in Feb).

Would I buy this car.... well, it runs really good. Fast (obviously!), reasonable on the fuel (23 mpg is what I got out of it on avg - m-way approx 28 mpg). Insurance for me was only £400 a year (!!). All these really horrible little annoyances are all but repaired and should give the car years more to give. The interior has not been used and was a great buying point for me (no marks!!). The leather looked (and smelled) like new.

Here's a link to the original photos I took....

Here's a link to the pages where the car was detailed....

Let me know if you need any more info.

Surely that's a matter for Trading Standards?

That's what I thought.

Dealer showed me and the wife a nice clean HPI (dated same day we collected the car).

Later received a letter from Santander Consumer Finance.... £14K outstanding and more or less threatened me with "either you pay or we collect". Dealer had closed shop a few days after we collected it and were up and running under a new name. MK Trading Standards have been to take statements and apparently, another 5 clients were in similar positions with either buying cars with (unknowingly) outstanding finance and/or trading cars in with finance that were supposed to be paid back.

I have involved expensive solicitors (who does nothing of course), the Police, Trading Standards and the Financial Ombudsman (as I paid the deposit with Credit Card) but to no avail.... just lots of stress and sleepless nights. :wallbash:

Happy to see the end of it (not so with a MUCH lighter wallet!).

BTW, the owner of this dealership drives a Bmw 7 (new version) and Trading Standards told me some customer had seen him in a Aston Martin.

They were called Mayfair Motors and now Top Marque Cars. They also own the building they are in..... *******s!

Great write up / reply, thanks for that. It's frightening to hear about your woes ref the outstanding finance, is this still ongoing or is it now resolved?

Jules.

NewMB,

Sounds like a nightmare for you mate. The only way you could have protected yourself was to done your own HPI regardless of the garages report. IIRC the HPI will only provide cover for the person who pays for the report.

Very few would have done another HPI

Well, as far as any outstanding finance it is resolved as I paid a very large amount of money back. But Trading Standard are building a criminal case against the owner/director so we will see.

Of course, I have since sold the car so makes no difference to me anymore. Pity I am not part of the mafia or have a "rough" background....if I did I would pay a visit to the north London address where he lives....

Lesson learned. It's just that one would normally trust dealers. Their place was/is really nice and deffo gives the impression of a good company. Clearly not.

I'm shocked, but quite frankly, not surprised at your experience.Consumer law is perfect on paper -trouble is its practioners and custodians are useless at applying it.
Anything involving a vendor/seller tranasaction no matter how illegal it was the Plod in 99% of cases don't want to know - you should have told them you were a one legged Lebanese Lesbian -it's all PC nowadays to get a ...PCs attention
Trading Standards are more intrested in chasing stallholders who sell bananas in Lbs instead of bloody Kgs
I suspect you physically did not have the Hpi in your possession? - even then that should only apply to a private sale and not a trader. This dealer is part of the Retail Motor Fedeartion, did you contact them?
I can't find any complaints online about this dealer's unscroupulous methods -perhaps you should start some ?
