Yesterday evening I was tasked with building a gate to keep our hounds off the side garden. I'd asked Mrs Ringway to order some tanalised timber and she thought decking would be a good idea.

However, the decking she ordered for me to collect, late on saturday afternoon was thicker than I would have liked (I was going to sandwich some mesh in between a front/rear frame) so I had a change of plan and came up with this. Well, it's the wedding soon so..

I suppose it's good to be patriotic now and again.

Mrs and the young Ringways have suggested this but It wont' happen. :)

This is the only decking we have around the place (alabaster picket-style fencing everywhere else) and I'd have preferred ordinary tanalised timber but the decking somehow managed to get the nod.

Still, I suppose it looks better than it would, if made from old Mountbattens. :p

Nope. Screwed through the outer framework and then diagonally (and invisibly) pinned at the centre sections.
I deliberately made the the centre pieces over-size so I could carefully mallet them into place. It really is rock solid. :)

Well you made it on St Georges Day. So maybe just pick out the Cross of St George in red...... Not really, it looks ace as it is. Infact it looks
Bearing in mind the Soltair (spelling correction possible needed from our Scots Clan) is 100 years older than the Cross of St George (what took us so long) So seniorority may be called up on.

So is it Ringway Blinds and Gates now?

The flag of our Union is fine by me.

Get it done in Red, White and Blue - or dark oak.

LOL! No! I'll stick with my day job. :)

I do really enjoy making this sort of thing though. I've just refitted the Sprinter with some above-floor storage units made from 12mm plyboard.

The best thing I've made was a bridge over the pond at our last house. I had to leave the bridge behind to enable people to get over the water. They've since filled in the pond and use the bridge as a bike-jump.

I'll dig out a pic of the bridge if I can.

    Edit: Picture of bridge.

LOL! It measures 900mm X 1040mm and I'll admit that when I was working on it, I realised it would be the wrong way around. A spur-of-the-moment design, and too late to stop by then..

I may well change the gate for the picket-style that we already have, so the patriotic one may well end up on ebay. :D

    then it will be spiffing

the mrs says you should go for a subtle wash, not solid colour

Here it is painted, rather than stained. Also had to take some liberties with the design due to the construction of the gate... ;)

    Eh? :p

Thanks for suggesting colours and shades everyone and special thanks to MOCAS for the photoshopping efforts which confirmed what I already knew - that the gate will not be painted red, white and blue. :)

Maybe a green or oak stain finish, or perhaps painted alabaster, IF the gate survives at all. :)
