Evening All

Many of you know I had a little minor bump into the back of a Skoda Superb a few months back. All the insurance claim is all sorted now but I have a little quandary. Due to the high excess on my policy and the fact it was a fairly minor bump I haven't had my car repaired yet. It was only a very minor low speed run into the back of the car in front after they took off from the lights then weirdly suddenly stopped dead. I didn't quite expect or make the same stop in time!

I have a decision to make. Do I repair my car fully and keep it? Or possibly sell it is as which will make it a very very cheap decent E55K for someone? Maybe to do the repair with a later E63 front end.

The reason I am thinking about options is my time is at a premium at the moment as one & half men down at work so I have a lot on my plate. I haven't the time to fix it up myself although it looks fairly simple. Car all works fine with no issues but it won't pass its MOT as it is due to headlight I suspect. MOT is not due until April 2019.

It had new tyres and discs/pads on the front shortly before I bought it. I put new rear PS4's on the back as soon as I bought it as they were nearly finished. It is not due a service for about 5k miles and has a slight rear only leak or sensor issue on suspension. Fine for 3-4 days but up to a week it drops a bit.

So do I sell the car as is really cheap to someone? Or fix and sell? Or fix and keep?

Answers on a postcode. All and any thoughts always appreciated.

Dean,

Maybe just garage it for a bit? Just till you get the issue at work sorted. Then you can get a nice new E63 front end for it ;-)

You have got ample storage space after all :)

Hope you are well mate,
Abs

I could do but already have 2.5 cars off the road as project cars. Slowly understanding that I can't do what I used to do/achieve a few years back!

I'd get a quote for both OEM E55 front end and a W211 E63.
Then make a decision on which one you want and leave it with a good bodyshop to deal with it.

Don't sell it............you have hardly driven it.

Thanks. Just creating some options and thinking about them. Open minded at the moment.

I miss my QP and XJ so will likely get one again as have nothing nicer to travel about with wife and kids at mo. Or a CL63 or S63 are in the same ballpark as well!

I've been knuckling down and working hard so feel a selfish treat is in order soon [emoji6]

Bit confused Dean - have the insurance company written your car off? Why aren’t they fixing it?

I feel like I’ve missed part of the story here!

They have paid out on the 3rd party car. I hadn't realised that if you claim for 3rd party only you don't pay your excess. You only pay your excess if you claim for your car. Never knew that.

My excess is more than the expected value of repair so not sure it is worth claiming for mine.

Sure, here you go. Quite a few would have seen it at Benz on the Green as it happened about a week before unfortunately. I have added one of the Skoda I bumped into the back of as well if that helps.

PCS have seen the car and it went up on the ramp on the morning of Benz on the Green. I asked Graham to have a good look over it to make sure it was a decent example and not a rotter so good to keep. All good and worth keeping Graham advised. Anyone is welcome to speak to PCS and Graham, Jack or Olly about the car. Many would have seen it at BotG. If I wasn't so busy at work I'd do it myself but can't see me getting time this year. Also I need to do work on the TVR really this winter as that is first in the queue!

Not sure if best to sell or keep and run then repair at some point when time allows.

Id keep the Standard front end, as the rest of the car is pretty standard is it not? Keep it and do it up over time bud, That looks like it could be put right very cheaply ebay would be your friend :)

Thanks Gav. Yup the whole car is stock and as it left the factory as far as I know. Apart from the McLaren sticker on the engine a previous owner McLaren engineer thought it needed.

I think that I would throw a few quid at it and get it fixed up at a bodyshop, just back to standard. Damage does not look so bad from just the photos, perhaps a bent panel inside, and mostly cosmetic, easy fix. Seems you have not even broken the lights. When it is fixed, then see if you love it enough to keep it, or if you want something else, then sell it on.

Steve

Sorry ...previous 2 posts came in before I had finished typing, fingers too slow, or brain working too slow.!

Hi Rockits, I can see you've fallen out of love with it and probably already have a replacement in mind so my advice would be to sell it - to me !!!!

LOL. One of those times I think that I have far too much on my plate and could do without further stuff to deal with. Coupled with my back up the creak again this last week doesn't help.

I'm open to opinions and offers but nothing decided yet. Just exploring all the possible options.

No idea....what do you think?

Crash for cash maybe...

Did they claim personal injury (i.e. do you know how much the "loss" was)?

It did seem like crash for cash and I believe a personal injury claim was made but don't think was paid out. Only guessing though.

I had specialist claims guy come to my house to conduct full interview and take full statement but there was only so much he could say or was prepared to. They paid out 2k to the 3rd party I understand.

I'm not an expert on it but I would imagine a PI claim would be far in excess of that (heading towards or into 5 figures).

That sounds like a professional bodyshop bumper replace and paint to me.

Glad to hear these fu*k*rs don't always get away with it!

It seems ridiculous to me they ever did with this kind of prang.
