I listed my 230e on Ebay recently. Unfortunately, the winning bidder wont respond to emails, or answer the phone :(. It's really disappointing.

We've bought something else, so I'm going to put madam in the garage, and have another crack at selling next summer.

Is there anything I should do to it to prepare for hibernation, or should I just lock it away and forget about it for the next 6 months?

If it's not going to move for the next six months, then don't leave the parking brake on. There's a good chance it will stick on. Make sure the antifreeze is up to spec and charge the battery a couple of times during hibernation as well. If nothing else it will let her know she hasn't been forgotten.

Lovely car by the way. I just wish I had the space for it.

immaculate, is it new lol.

I would be tempted to run it up and take it for a spin on one dry sunny day during the winter months if we get any.

Other than that, leave all windows open a small amount to let air move about inside and do the same with the garage.

Movement of air is the single most important aspect in storing a car. Next is temp fluctations, but as you are storing only for a few months this is not an issue, although you could get a very cheap heater with an frost 'stat, so that it never goes down below say 2 degrees. Nothing else to add on top of what wat mentioned by stratman.

Even though I dont like old cars, esp that shape of merc for some reason )sorry), I can see it is a truly beautiful car in A1 cond. It will make an owner very happy somewhere when you eventually sell it. Going to be worth big money one day if kept in that condition.

Only thing that stands out to me other than the immaculate like new car is the battery. Get rid of the red one and get a Merc one, will look the part and will give the impression that it really maintained regrdless of cost. You'll get your money back come selling it. It will be peanuts compared to the price of the car

Report bloke on ebay !!

I'm sorry things didn't work out as planned. Lovely motor.

The only things I will add to the above is regarding battery and tyres.

The battery is best preserved by one of those maintenance chargers (not just a trickle charger), which will keep it in top condition. I have not done this in the past, and it is an expensive mistake to make come spring! Either that, or charge it up at fairly regular intervals.

Tyres will not like being sat in the same spot for any great length of time. Ideally, get the car up on axle stands or whatever means to lift the load from the tyres. They will go like threepenny bits if not. If the car has to stand on the tyres, then inflate to 40-45 psi so the roundness is better preserved.

basicaly just take it out every other week for a drive down the road.. a battery conditioner is an essential bit of kit.

Howard, try over at MBOC if you are a meber, may have more luck thee as it always tends to be a touch more oriented towards the older stuff.

Hello Howard,
tried to give you a ring today but your phone must of been off. Left a message on your voicemail. Give me a bell when you get a chance or sent me a text and I'll phone you back :thumb:

what a clean car! i think thats a steal of a price for that car. i think you could have made more money just by parting it out... but then again, it's a shame to do. good luck!

Very nice W123! The W123's these days are usually in a very sorry state but the good ones will always be appreciated. The Mercs in that color blue look GREAT with the orange turn signals:thumb:

I would strongly suggest that you drive this vehicle once a week.

W123s don't like to be left standing around and you will land up with all sorts of problems including possibly seized brake calipers, and oil seals hardening etc due to lack of use.

The battery will be the least of your worries.

Failure to sell might be a blessing in disguise - it's worth more than £2.5k as low mileage examples in VGC are hard to find. One thought is to contact Mark Cosovich, as he may know someone who's looking for one.

Of course, what you should really do is ignore the Mrs and keep it...

What a difference a couple of weeks can make.

After deciding to keep the W123 in the garage until next summer before trying to sell it again - A forum member got in touch and we agreed a sale. :thumb:

I picked him up at Heathrow this morning. Car and new owner are now on a 500 mile drive back home.

It's new owner is a really good guy and Im very happy it will be owned by someone so enthusiastic. Although I'm feeling emotional that the car's gone. Weird. :(

I am sure he'll be along shortly.

Nice one, glad things worked out for you in the end. :)

I think I know who he might be, and if I'm right, congratulations to you both. From the photos of your car, it is a lovely, lovely vehicle.
Driving 500 miles in a lot of cars might be a chore, but I bet his journey tonight is a real pleasure.

Thanks Ted. It says a lot when people on this forum will take their time out to go and view a car for someone else.

I had a text half hour ago - The traffic is bad in Birmingham.

I dont envy the distance - but the seat is first class. :)

I'd hazard a guess it's on its way to Dundee , and hope we might see it at some of the Scottish GTG's .

Nope :)
