Ok i've been meaning to do this for a while now... I'll give you a short update on what im doing. (also tried to put it in project section but wouldnt allow me :S)

Car: W202 C230 Kompressor Manual
1997
original colour, brilliant silver
New colour, Super black (non metalic)
Spec: eletric leather heated seats, glass sunroof, remote boot release, eletric windows all round and mirrors, alpine CD player

Previous owner mods.
eibach dampers and springs (its damn low)
18" 8.5J width AMG reps (Soon to be replaced)
Dodgey stickers

Ok so it was obvious she was going to be rusty but i paid £600 for it so thats dirt cheap.

Bought so far: Genuine second hand front wings and bonnet, new grill and newer style front grille, new bonnet badge. Rubbed down, grinded rust off, treated, filled dents etc, doors off, bonnet off, wings off, boot off, well you name it its not on it anymore.

Full respray being done, headlights being refurbed, along with the rears. Also dechrome like an AMG :D

Iv ordered new wheels, 18" CLS style amg stagered fitment. 8.5j fronts and 9.5j rears. With Avon zz3 225 on the front and 245 or 255 on the rear.

Heres a few photos

please post other pics when you have dunne more job on your car.

I take pics with my phone, then I hook my telephone to my computer and rework the pic size in PAINT smaller sized pics are easier to view.
Try it.

Nice project. I take it the engine bay will remain silver once resprayed. Can I ask how much the respray is costing please? Just been toying with a respray idea myself for the future..;)

The work is mainly done by me, I resprayed my last w124 myself do it cost £120 lol but I'm getting a mate to spray it this time which is costing me £700 that's for door shuts and the works, only bit is the engine bay parts I can't reach.

Few more photos, left the bumpers and front doors on to respray as i had issues with rotten bolts so left the bumpers on. still will be sprayed just aswell to be fair so im not too fussed. As you can see my car is super low at the front

Oh and heres a photo of my dads CLS with the same wheels as iv just bought

its going to be running 255/35/18 and 225/40/18 on the front on the rear.

What are your plans for the front and rear lights, what do you mean by refurbed? Progress looks good.

taking the front ones apart, respraying the inner parts silver as they have gone a yellowy colour, wet and dry them all down then polish them back up so they are swirl and scratch free. I'll then put HID in the front

Be careful about after market HIDs in a non-HID housing. The normal lens affects the beam pattern as it is not designed for a HID.

the front should sit nicely, the back im going to wait and see, they are 9.5J with ET35 so they might need spacers on the back if so i'll buy some hubcentric ones probably go for 20mm

Yeah iv heard that about HID's, for MOT's usually have to take them out

Bosch do original W202 HID, xenons but they are expensive, Nick Shude had a set for about £550 including ballasts. Normal HIDs are much cheaper but are not strictly legal for vehicles on the road.

thanks for the advice, much appriciated, however £550 for HID's is just too much I only paid £630 for the motor and im having a whole respray done for bassically just under £700. I dont condone illeagle equipment for cars but i think its one that you can put on your car without raising any eyebrows

I think the police possibly would share a different view, but just my opinion.

The ones I fitted aren't strictly legal either unless you have self-levelling suspension and headlamp wash/wipe installed. They are at least factory HID lamps though so the light pattern and output is fit for purpose.

There are different bulbs that are designed for non projector lenses, I think it’s something like H7R. I fitted them to my previous car and never had any problems. Pass its MOT and the beam pattern was fine.

My W202 has factory xenon’s, it has automatic height adjustment and wipe but no washer for the lights.

Nice, but you left the bumpers on!?! surely it would be better to tackle the rusty bolts?

What happens if you have a bump and need to do it at a later time?

Well it had some kind of washer when it left the factory!
